1. Introduction
This instruction manual is intended for users of the Trust Compact Scan USB 19200. Some experience with
computers is necessary when installing this product. In case of doubt consult one of the Trust Customer Care
Centres. The last page of this electronic instruction manual, as well as the reverse of the printed quick
installation manual, contains more information about these Customer Care Centres.
1.1 Conventions
This manual uses the following layout conventions for instructions:
<key> Requires the user to press a key. The key legend is shown between the angle brackets.
‘System’ This is a software-specific term, e.g. a term used by Windows.
[DIR] Text in this font is to be typed by the user.
(Term) The text between the parentheses (….) is the English term, e.g. (File), referred to in the
accompanying illustration.

Note: If you connect the scanner to a USB-HUB, the USB-HUB should have its own power supply.
The examples given assume that the letter “D” has been assigned to your CD-ROM station. If your system
uses a different letter for your CD-ROM drive, such as "E", you should replace the drive letter "D" in the text
with "E”.
1.2 Contents of the package
Check the contents of the package before reading the User's manual. You should have the following items:
•Scanner;
•CD-ROM with drivers and applications;
•CD-ROM with PhotoExpress 3.0;
•This manual.
Should there be anything missing or damaged, contact one of the Trust Customer Care Centres. You will find
more information about this on the reverse of this instruction manual.
1.3 Minimum system requirements
•Intel Pentium 166MMX CPU
•Free USB port
•16 MB RAM
•60 MB free hard disk space (for steering program, additional HDD room necessary for applications)
•4x CD-ROM drive
•Windows 98, ME or 2000

2. Safety
Read the following instructions carefully before use:
1. Do not use this equipment in humid environments like bathrooms, humid cellars, swimming pools, etc.
2. Never insert objects into the openings on the outside of the device as you can come into contact with live
electrical components. This can cause fire or give strong electrical shocks.
3. Do not try to repair the equipment yourself. When opening or removing the casing you may accidentally
come into contact with live parts. There are other risks as well.
4. If any of the following conditions apply, disconnect the power plug from the mains and have the
equipment serviced by qualified service personnel:
a) The power lead or plug have become damaged or worn;
b) Liquid has entered the equipment;
c) The equipment has been dropped and/or the casing has become damaged;
5. Place the equipment so that the cables cannot be damaged.

3. Installation
Note: Before installing the Trust Compact Scan USB 19200, the software should first be installed and
the scanner then connected to it’s USB port.
3.1 Installatie TWAIN steering program
1. Ensure that Windows has been started.
2. Place the CD-ROM with steering programs and applications in your CD-ROM player.
3. Select ‘Start’ {Run} in the start menu. See figure 1.

4. Type [D:\SETUP.EXE] and click on ‘OK’ to start the Trust Software Installer.

5. Select in the left window the language that you wish to use during the installation. See figure 2.
6. Click on the button ‘Compact Scan USB 19200’ to start the installation of the TWAIN steering program.
7. Select the preferred language version of the TWAIN steering program and click on ‘OK’.
8. Click on "Next" to follow the installation. See figure 3.

9. Indicate the location where you want to install the steering programme (if necessary) and click on ‘Next’.

10. Ensure that both options in the next screen are ticked and click on ‘Next’. See figure 5.

11. Indicate the location on which the program icons are to be placed (if necessary) en click on ‘Next’. See
figure 6.

12. Click on ‘Start Install' to copy the files to the location indicated. See figure 7.

13. After installation, select the option ‘Direct Scan’ to add your start menu and click on ‘OK’. See figure 8.

14. Click on ‘Finish" to round off the installation and to restart your system. See figure 9.

Your have completed the installation of the steering program. Go on with the next chapters for the installation
of the necessary software and the connection of the scanner.
3.2 Installation Fine Reader 4.0 Sprint
For the complete operation of the OCR function (Optical Character Recognition) of the scanner, you need to
install the application Fine Reader 4.0 Sprint. Fine Reader is a program to scan text and to convert it to a text
document. This can subsequently be processed in a word processing program. A very detailed manual of the
program can be found on the CD-ROM.
Follow the directions below for the installation:
1. Follow steps 1 to 5 of chapter 3.1 once again to start the Trust Software Installer.
2. Click on the ‘Fine Reader 4.0 Sprint’ to start the installation.
3. Select the language that you wish to use for the installation and click on ‘Next’.

4. Click on ‘Agreed’ to accept the licensing agreements and to continue the installation.
5. Fill-in your name and in appropriate your company name and click on ‘Next’. See figure 10.

6. Click again on ‘Next’ to confirm your details.
7. Click on the button 'Full Installation' to install all components. See figure 11.

8. If desired, indicate a location on which FineReader is to be installed and click on ‘Next’. See figure 12.
