Audio Detector for the Lynx system
The audio detector is designed for use in conjunction with the Lynx – our wireless
alert system for people with impaired hearing. The Lynx uses various transmitters
and receivers that alert the user to noises such as a ringing telephone or doorbell, or
the first signs of a fire.
The audio detector is a transmitter that can be used wherever it will be activated by
specific sounds such as a ringing signal from an entry phone, a telephone or a door-
bell. The signal is sent to the receiver via a wireless link. One or more repeaters may
also be installed in order to amplify the sound signal and thus extend its range.

Installing the audio detector
1. Battery: Slide the blue cover down and fit the
battery provided.
2. Select alarm symbol: The audio detector is pre-
installed to door. To change this default setting,
see the next page.
3. Microphone: Place the microphone directly on
the sound source or as close to it as possible to
avoid false alarms. Check the correct location of
the sound source. In a telephone set, for instance,
the ringing tone can come from various openings
under the set.
The microphone flex has a length of 1.25 meters. If the
distance to the sound source is shorter, the excess flex may
be rolled up and placed under the cover. NOTE: In this case
a groove must be cut in the bottom of the battery cover to
avoid clamping the flex.
4. Placing the audio detector: The audio detector
may be screwed permanently onto a wall, under a
table or placed in some other suitable location.

Switching the audio detector on and off
Switching on: Press down the on/off button.
Switching off: Release the on/off button.
NOTE! To maximise the battery life, you should switch the detector off when it is
not in use.
Adjusting the sound sensitivity
A knob on the front panel allows you to adjust the sound level to which the audio
detector will respond. Start with the lowest sensitivity . Activate the sound source
several times and turn the knob gradually clockwise until the transmitter starts.
Check that the transmitter starts each time the sound source is activated. To avoid
false alarms, the audio detector should be set to the lowest possible sensitivity.
When the sound source is activated
As soon as the sound source is activated, a wireless signal is sent to the receiver in-
stalled in the Lynx system. The red lamp on the audio detector simultaneously lights
up for several seconds.
Depending on the type of receiver installed, the alarm takes the form of a vibration
and a displayed symbol, a loud acoustic signal or a blinking light.
Read the user instructions for the installed receiver!
Battery level warning
The audio detector is powered by a battery. An alkali battery has a normal operating
life of about three months and a lithium battery of about six months. When the bat-
tery begins to run down, the audio detector will display an appropriate warning while
simultaneously sending a sound signal to the receiver in the alarm system.
Read the user instructions for the installed receiver!
Setting the sound symbol and changing the channel
The audio detector is equipped with a transmitter that sends signals wirelessly to the receiver installed
in the Lynx system. The transmitter is located under the blue cover and contains an 8-pin microswitch
with two functions:
• Alarm symbol (fire, telephone, door etc.) The audio detector is pre-set to door, but you may select
any other suitable symbol if you wish. These symbols will depend on which receiver you use. If you
wish to change the symbol, then set switches 6, 7 and 8 on the audio detector according to the table
on the following page.
• Channels There are a total of 16 different channels (0-9, A-F). The system transmitter and receiver
must be set to the same channel in order to communicate with each other. Channel 0 is reserved for
a common fire alarm and should not be used. The audio detector and all the receivers in the Lynx
system are pre-set to channel 9 and will interoperate perfectly when no changes are made.

Changing channel settings
It may sometimes be necessary to change the channel settings. If two or more users live close to each
other, adjacent sounds may trigger the wrong system. To solve this problem, you can change the channel
setting so that it is different for each user. Any of the free channels except for 0 may be selected. If you
need to change a channel, set the switches on the audio detector as shown on the table below. In order to
change a channel on the receiver, see the relevant user instructions.
