ThesimplestinstallationistoplacetheHI-EDry195inthehumidareawithnoducting.Theairinletontop
&outletonthesidemustbeatleast1’fromwallsandotherobstructionstoairow.
2.1B In Humid Area, Duct inlet and/or Outlet
Ifthehumidareaisverylargeorhashighceilings,dehumidicationcanbeimprovedbyaddinganinlet
and/oroutletducttocirculateanddestratifystagnantareas.Foralargearea,addinletoroutletductingto
createowacrossthearea’sgreatestlength.
Forareaswithceilingshigherthan12’,useaninletducttodrawwarm,moistairfromneartheceiling.See
section2.4forattachingductcollars&ducting.
2.1C In Remote Area, Duct Inlet & Outlet
Itisoftendesirable,especiallyinpoolroomsandnishedareas,toinstalltheHI-EDry195inanadjacent
equipmentroomorunnishedarea.Airistransferredbetweenthehumidroomandtheunitviaducting.
ThefactorymountedhumiditycontrolontheHI-EDry195cabinetmaynotsensethehumidityinthehumid
roomaccuratelyenoughwiththisinstallationmethod.Ifso,anadditionalhumiditycontrolcanbemounted
inthehumidroomandwiredtotheHI-EDry195.Localelectricalcodesmustbefollowedwhenwiringthe
control.
2.1D In Remote Area, Duct Outlet Only
AsimplerremoteinstallationmethodthantheoneaboveusesductingonlybetweentheHI-EDry195
dischargeandthehumidroom;theHI-EDry195inletdrawsairfromtheroominwhichit’slocated.This
workswellifthereisanadequateairowpathbetweenthetworooms;e.g.,highdoorundercut,louvered
doororwallgrill.Thiseliminatestheneedtoremotemountthehumiditycontrol.Thereareseveralpotential
disadvantagestousingthismethod.First,humidairisdrawnintotheroomwheretheHI-EDry195is
located.Second,toaccuratelysensehumidity,theblowerintheHI-EDry195mayneedtoruncontinuously
todrawairfromthehumidroomintotheHI-EDry195room.Third,aslightnegativepressureiscreated
intheroomwiththeHI-EDry195whichcouldbackdraftopencombustiondeviceslocatedthere.Ifsuch
devicesarepresent,callthefactoryforspecicinstructionsbeforeusingthisinstallationmethodorconsider
theoptionbelow.
2.1E In Remote Area, Duct Inlet Only
WhentheHI-EDry195islocatedinaroomseparatefromthemainareatobedehumidied,itmaybe
desirabletodehumidifyand/orslightlypressurizethatroom.Pressurizationassuresthatopencombustion
devicesdonotbackdraftaswouldbethecaseiftheroomwassufcientlyde-pressurized.Thiscanbe
accomplishedbyinstallingaductfromthehumidroomtotheHI-EDry195inletandbyallowingtheHI-E
Dry195todischargethedehumidiedairintotheroominwhichit’slocated.Anadequateairowpath
mustexistbetweenthetworoomsforthismethodtoworkwell.Anadditionalhumiditycontrolmayneedto
bemountedinthehumidareaandwiredtotheHI-EDry195toaccuratelymaintainthedesiredhumidity.
Localelectricalcodesmustbefollowedwhenwiringthecontrol.
2.2 Electrical Requirements
TheHI-EDry195plugsintoacommongroundedoutletona15Ampcircuit.Itdrawsbetween6and7
Ampsundernormaloperatingconditions.Ifusedinawetarea(pool,sparoom,orbasementproneto
ooding),agroundfaultinterrupterprotectedcircuitisrequired.
Ifanextensioncordisrequired,itmusthaveaminimumof16gaugeconductorsiflessthan25feetlongand
14gaugeifgreaterthan25feet.

2.3 Condensate Removal
TheHI-EDry195isequippedwithaninternalcondensatepumptoremovethewaterthatiscondensed
duringdehumidication.Thisallowsthecondensatetobepumped20’withtheattachedhose.Ifthe
condensatemustbepumpedmorethan20feetabovetheunit,asecondpumpmustbeaddedtorelaythe
condensate.ThecondensatepumpismountedinsidetheHI-EDry195asapermanent,integralpartofthe
unit.ItincludesasafetyswitchfeaturethatpreventsoodingbyturningofftheHI-EDry195ifthepump
fails.
2.4 Ducting
2.4A Optional Ducting
Twotwelve-inchcollarsareavailableasakitfromthefactorythatwillallowductingtobeattachedtothe
inletandoutletoftheHI-EDry195.Attachtheinletcollartothetopoftheunitbycuttingtheeighttabs
thatsupportthe12”roundopeninginthetop.The12”collarwiththreetabscanbeattachedviatheholes
providedinthefrontoftheunit,andtheother12”collarcanbeafxedtothetopopening.
2.4B Ducting for Dehumidication
DuctingtheHI-EDry195asmentionedinsections2.1B-2.1Erequiresconsiderationofthefollowingpoints:
Duct Sizing:Fortotalductlengthsupto25’,useaminimum10”diameterroundorequivalentrectangular.
Forlongerlengths,useaminimum12”diameterorequivalent.Grillsordiffusersontheductendsmustnot
excessivelyrestrictairow.
Isolated Areas:Effectivedehumidicationmayrequirethatductingbebranchedtoisolated,stagnantareas.
Use8”diameterbranchductingtoeachoftwoorthreeareas;use6”toeachoffourorveareas;use4”to
eachofsixormoreareas.
2.4C Ducting for Fresh Air
FreshaircanbebroughtintothestructurecontinuouslybyconnectingaductfromoutsidetotheHI-EDry
195inletandbyturningonthefanswitch.Advantagesofthisformofventilationinclude:
1. Outsideairislteredbeforeenteringthebuilding.
2. OutsideairwillbedehumidiedbeforeenteringiftheHI-EDry195isrunning.
3. Drawingairfromoutsideandblowinginsideaidsinpressurizingthestructure.Thishelpsprevent
unlteredandundehumidiedairfromenteringelsewhere.Italsoreducesthepotentialforcarcinogenic
radongastoenter.
4.Theneedforanalternateventilationdevicemaybeeliminated.
Aninsulated4”diameterductisgenerallysufcienttoprovideupto70CFMofoutsideair.A6”ductwith
anadjustabledamperisrecommendedforhigherows.LargequantitiesofoutsideairwillimpactHI-EDry
195performancepositivelyornegatively,dependinguponthedifferencebetweeninsideandoutsideair
conditions.Consultthefactorybycalling1-800-533-7533forrecommendationsregardingtheuseofhigher
owswithyourspecicapplication.
Theoutsideairductshouldbeconnectedintothemaininletductclosetotheunit.Ifnootherinletductis
used,itmaybenecessarytoobstructtheinletoftheHI-EDry195toensureadequateventilation.

2.5 Optional Remote Humidity Control
A120Vacremotehumiditycontrolisavailablefromthefactory.Thiscontrol
canbewiredinparallelwiththeinternalhumiditycontrol.Unplugtheunit
andremovethecabinetfront.Removethefourscrewssecuringthecontrol
boxtotheblowerendoftheHI-EDry195.Pullthecontrolboxawayfrom
theblowerendtoallowaccess.Conduitcanbeconnectedtotheknockout
intheblowerend.Wirethetwoleadsfromtheremotehumiditycontrolto
thetwoorangeleadsprovidedinsidethecontrolbox.
NowyoucancontroltheHI-EDry195withtheinternalorremotehumidity
control.Ifyouwishtouseonlytheremotehumiditycontrol,turnthe
internalhumiditycontrolcounter-clockwiseuntilitstops.Thiswillturnthe
internalhumiditycontroloff.
2.6 Hard Wiring the HI-E Dry 195
1. Removethecabinetfronttotheleftofthecordmount.
2. Cutthecordnearthestrainreliefbushingandremovethecordandthe
strainreliefbushing.
3. Trimandstripthewireendsforwirenuts.
4. Usea1/2”connectortoattachthehardwiringtotheHI-EDry195.
Useaminimumof#3-14wire.Complywithallstateandlocalcode
requirements.
5. Usewirenutstoattachtheappropriatewireleads.
3. Operation
3.1 Humidity Control Adjustment
Thedehumidierwillruncontinuouslyuntiltherelativehumidity(RH)isreducedtothehumiditycontrol
dialsetting.SettingthehumiditycontroltolowerRHlevelswillNOTincreasetheunit’sdehumidication
rate,itwillsimplyrunlongertoreducethearea’sRHtothesetting.TheHI-EDry195100unit(and
refrigerantbaseddehumidiersingeneral)willreduceawarmspace’sRHtoalowerlevelthanthatofacool
space.Itisthereforepointlesstosetthehumiditycontroltoexcessivelylowlevelsincoolrooms.Doingso
willresultinlongperiodsofineffectivedehumidierruntime.
Aqualityhumiditymeterisrecommendedtoaccuratelymonitorhumiditylevels.Foraquoteonaquality
humiditymeter,callthefactory.
3.2 Fan Switch
TurningthefanswitchONwillcausetheunit’sinternalblowertoruncontinuously,whethertheunitis
dehumidifyingornot.Thisfunctionisdesirableiftheunitisusedforaircirculationorfreshairventilation.

3.3 Defrost Control Adjustment
WhentheHI-EDry195isusedinacoolarea,frostwillformonthe
coolingcoilasitdehumidies.Whenenoughfrostforms,thedefrost
thermostatwillinitiatethetimeddefrostcycle.Thecycleperiodically
turnsoffthecompressorwhileallowingtheblowertorun.Theair
thattheblowerdrawsthroughthecoolingcoilmeltsthefrost.
Thedefrostcycleisautomaticanddesignedforoptimum
performanceabove50°F.
3.4 Low Pressure Control
Ifthelowsiderefrigerantpressuredropsto35PSIG,thelowpressure
controlopensandshutsoffthecompressorandblower.Itisan
automaticallyresetcontrolthatwillclosewhenthepressurerisesto
60PSIG.Itsprimaryfunctionistopreventdamagetothecompressor
ifaleakdevelopsintherefrigerationsystem.Itmayalsoopenifthe
unitisA)usedinacoolarea(below50°F)andthedefrosttimerisnot
adjusted(seeSec.3.3)orB)storedwhereitisbelow40°Fandthen
started.Undertheseconditions,theunitwillrestartwithinseveral
minutes.Untiltheunitwarmsup,itmaycycleseveraltimes.
4.Maintenance
4.1 Air Filter
TheHI-EDry195isequippedwithtwo2”thick,MERV8pleated
fabricairltersthatmustbecheckedregularly.Operatingthe
unitwithdirtylterswillreducethedehumidier’scapacityand
efciencyandmaycausethecompressortocycleoffandon
unnecessarilyonthedefrostcontrol.
Theltercangenerallybevacuumedcleanseveraltimesbefore
needingreplacement.Replacementlterscanbeorderedfromthe
factoryorpurchasedlocallyifavailable.DONOToperatetheunit
withoutthelterorwithalesseffectivelterastheheatexchange
coilsinsidetheunitcouldbecomecloggedandrequiredisassembly
toclean.
5. Service
CAUTION: Servicing the HI-E Dry 195 with its high-pressure refrigerant system and high voltage circuitry
presents a health hazard which could result in death, serious bodily injury, and/or property damage. Only
qualied service people should service this unit.

5.1 Warranty
Awarrantycerticatehasbeenenclosedwiththisunit.
Readitbeforeanyrepairisinitiated.Ifawarrantyrepair
isrequired,callthefactoryrstat1-800-533-7533for
warrantyclaimauthorizationandtechnicalassistance.
5.2 Technical Description
RefertoFigure3.TheHI-EDry195usesarefrigeration
systemsimilartoanairconditioner’storemoveheatand
moisturefromincomingair,andaddheattotheairthatis
discharged.
Hot,high-pressurerefrigerantgasisroutedfromthe
compressortothecondensercoil.Therefrigerantiscooled
andcondensedbygivingupitsheattotheairthatis
abouttobedischargedfromtheunit.Therefrigerantliquid
thenpassesthroughtwocapillarytubes,whichcausethe
refrigerantpressureandtemperaturetodrop.Itnextenters
theevaporatorcoilwhereitabsorbsheatfromtheincoming
airandevaporates.
Theevaporatoroperatesinaoodedcondition,whichmeansthatitshouldalwaysbefullofliquid
refrigerantduringnormaloperation.Aoodedevaporatorshouldmaintainconstantpressureand
temperatureacrosstheentirecoil,frominlettooutlet.
Themixtureofgasandliquidrefrigerantentertheaccumulatorafterleavingtheevaporatorcoil.The
accumulatorpreventsanyliquidrefrigerantfromreachingthecompressor.Thecompressorevacuatesthe
coolrefrigerantgasfromtheaccumulatorandcompressesittoahighpressureandtemperaturetorepeatthe
process.
5.3 Troubleshooting
No dehumidication, neither blower nor compressor run with fan switch OFF.
1. Unitunpluggedornopowertooutlet.
2. Humiditycontrolsettoohighordefective(Sec.3.1&5.9)
