1. General Information
Description of Product
Congratulations on your purchase of the Tern GSD, a compact utility bicycle designed to help you get things done in life. Even with its ability to
carry loads of cargo, the GSD is actually the same length as a regular ebike, so it fits anywhere a standard ebike can. But there are lots of places
a standard ebike doesn’t fit. That’s why we designed it to pack down to 1/3 its volume in only 10 seconds. That means you can store your utility
bike in your urban apartment, fit it in the elevator, or haul it on a train or van for weekend getaways.

2. Weight and Loading
The Tern GSD is designed to carry. In addition to meeting ISO 4210 standards for city/trekking bikes, the GSD has undergone additional cargo
bike testing to ensure that it is capable of carrying a rider plus large amounts of cargo and/or a passenger.
However, restrictions do apply and there are considerations for loading the GSD in a way that maximizes comfort and stability for the rider.
To safely operate the GSD, you must observe the following:
GSD Limits:
1. Maximum rider weight should not exceed 120 kg (265 lb)
2. Maximum gross weight of the bike should not exceed 200 kg (441 lb). The maximum gross weight is defined as the total weight of the bike,
batteries, passenger(s), accessories and cargo.
3. Maximum weight on each tire (Schwalbe Supermoto-X 62-406) should not exceed 115 kg (254 lb) when inflated to the maximum allowable
pressure of 65 psi (4.5bar). Overloading and/or under-inflating a tire causes premature wear. Approximately 60% of the total weight will be on
the rear wheel.
GSD Accessories Limits:
1. Maximum weight on the kickstand, when lowered, is 45 kg (99 lb) of cargo.
2. Maximum weight on the Transporteur Rack, if installed, is 20 kg (44 lb).
3. Maximum weight on the Sidekick Lower Deck, if installed, is 25 kg (55 lb) on each side. Keep the weight balanced between left and right sides
for optimal stability.
4. Maximum weight on the Shortbed Tray, if installed, is 35 kg (77 lb).

Recommendations for Safe and Happy Riding:
1. As a general rule, total cargo weight should be no more than 80% of the rider’s body weight, which is the point most riders can comfortably
handle their loaded bike.
2. Rider size and strength will affect how easily a loaded bicycle can be handled. Always practice in an open, car-free area before carrying a
passenger or a large amount of cargo on the bike.
3. The Sidekick Foot Pegs and Sidekick Lower Deck, if installed, are strictly for passenger use when SEATED. Standing is unsafe and may
permanently damage the frame.
4. Always use an approved child seat to carry children. The Thule Yepp Maxi child seat has been tested and approved for use with Tern GSD.
5. When child or adult passengers are getting onto the rear rack, ALWAYS hold the bike. NEVER allow children to climb onto the GSD by
themselves unless an adult is steadying the bike.
6. When buckling children into a child seat, you may use two hands since the kickstand will keep the bike stable.
7. NEVER, ever, ever leave children unattended on the back of the GSD, even if it is on the kickstand. Wriggling kids can upset the balance of the
bike and a fall may result in serious injuries.
8. Cargo should be placed as low as possible and strapped firmly to the bike. Items not securely fastened to the bike may compromise the
handling of the bike and endanger others on the road.
9. Some countries do not allow carrying adult passengers on the back of a bicycle. Always check local regulations before doing so.
The above load limits are for riding on paved roads and not for off-pavement riding.
