DESCRIPTION
The Take-Along Lifts LLC Model 1000 is a portable patient transfer aid, designed to assist in transferring
individuals weighing up to 300 pounds between surfaces such as beds, wheelchairs and toilets It folds up
compactly for storage and transport and weighs only about 47 pounds, allowing it to be transported in a car, or rolled
along like a piece of luggage
INTENDED SE / INDICATIONS
The Model 1000 is designed to assist individuals weighing up to 300 lbs who have sufficient upper body balance to
support themselves in a sitting position on the edge of a bed It is indicated for use in transferring these individuals
between surfaces in close proximity to each other, and over flat, smooth surfaces The transfer device is intended for
use with standard-sized wheelchairs of up to 20-inch frame size The clearance between the legs of the lift is 24” at
the base of the legs to 41” at the tips
CONTRAINDICATIONS
The Model 1000 should not be used with individuals who do not have sufficient upper body balance to sit upright in
a chair or on the edge of a bed The PTA’s slings are not intended to provide full body and head support The
Model 1000 should only be used in transferring individuals short distances, and should not be used over irregular or
inclined surfaces, over obstacles, or on soft surfaces such as plush carpeting The Model 1000 should not be used
with individuals weighing more than 300 lbs The Model 1000 may be used with “standard” sized wheelchairs
which can fit between the legs of the lift The clearance between the legs of the lift is 24” at the base of the legs to
41” at the tips

Use the Take-Along L fts LLC’s sl ng des gn that s recommended by the nd v dual’s doctor,
nurse or qual f ed med cal ass stant for the comfort and safety of the nd v dual be ng
transferred.
The Take-Along L fts LLC sl ngs are ntended for use w th nd v duals who have suff c ent
upper body control to rema n n a s tt ng pos t on. They are not full body sl ngs and do not
prov de full body and head support.
DO NOT use any k nd of plast c backed ncont nence pad or seat ng cush on between the
pat ent and sl ng mater al that may cause the pat ent to sl de out of the sl ng dur ng
transferr ng.
The PTA’s legs MUST BE n the OPENED/LOCKED pos t on BEFORE l ft ng and
transferr ng the pat ent. Insure that leg lock ng button s fully ra sed above the leg surface.
Before transferr ng a pat ent from a stat onary object (wheelcha r, commode, car or bed),
sl ghtly ra se the pat ent off the stat onary object and check that all sl ng attachments are
secure and that the sl ng s properly adjusted. If any attachment/adjustment s not correct,
lower the pat ent and correct the problem, then ra se the pat ent and check aga n.
WARNING: Use caut on when adjust ng the sl ng for ncreased access to cloth ng. Adjust ng
the sl ng h gher w ll ncrease the tendency for sl d ng through the sl ng. Be sure to use the s de
adjustment straps to re-adjust the sl ng, and only ra se the pat ent sl ghtly off the commode.

DO NOT transfer the pat ent to another surface w th the sl ng adjusted for to let ng. The sl ng
should be re-pos t oned to the normal pos t on after to let ng before transferr ng from the
commode
Dur ng transfer, w th pat ent suspended n a sl ng attached to the transfer a d, DO NOT roll
caster base over objects such as plush carpet, ra sed carpet b nd ngs, door frames, or any
uneven surfaces or obstacles that would create an mbalance of the pat ent transfer a d and
cause the pat ent transfer a d to t p over. Use the steer ng handle at ALL t mes to maneuver
the pat ent.
Take-Along L fts LLC does NOT recommend lock ng the casters of the pat ent transfer a d
when l ft ng an nd v dual. Do ng so could cause the transfer a d to t p and endanger the
pat ent and ass stants. Take-Along L fts DOES recommend that the casters be left
UNLOCKED dur ng transferr ng procedures to allow the transfer a d to stab l ze tself when
the pat ent s n t ally l fted from a cha r, bed or other stat onary object.
To avo d the poss b l ty of p nch ng, use a pen or s m lar dev ce to depress the spr ng plungers
that lock the legs n pos t on.
Follow the recommended prevent ve ma ntenance procedures outl ned n the manual. Regular
ma ntenance s necessary to assure proper operat on.
DO NOT exceed max mum we ght l m tat on of the transfer a d. The we ght l m tat on s 300
lbs. (136 kg.).
Take-Along L fts LLC recommends that when mov ng a pat ent, the transfer a d be rolled by
pull ng the steer ng handle towards the attendant, not by push ng. Th s w ll ncrease the
stab l ty n the event that an unexpected obstacle s encountered.
CAUTION: When transferr ng to/from a wheelcha r, nsure that the wheelcha r’s footrests have been
removed or swung out of the way, and that the wheelcha r’s front wheels are or ented so as not to nterfere
w th the base of the transfer a d.

HANDLING PROCED RES
SHIPPING AND TRANSPORTATION INSTRUCTIONS
If the Transfer Aid is to be shipped by common carrier, it should be packed in the original packing carton, or should
be professionally packaged to prevent damage during shipment
npacking
1 Check for obvious damage to the carton or its contents If damage is evident, notify Take-Along Lifts LLC
2 Open the top of the carton and remove the slings and cardboard shelf
3 Lay carton face-down on floor
4 Open the bottom of the carton and fold back the carton flaps
5 Stand the carton upright and pull the outer box up off the lift
6 Remove bag and all packing tube material from the lift
NOTE: Reta n boxes, conta ners and pack ng mater al for use n stor ng or sh pp ng.
Inspection
1 Examine exterior of the Transfer Aid for damage
Storage
1 Store the Transfer Aid in a dry area
2 DO NOT place other objects on top of the Transfer Aid

ASSEMBLY OF THE TRANSFER AID
The Model 1000 Transfer Aid is shipped in its folded configuration To complete assembly of the PTA, attach the
crank handle to the crank (FIG 1) using the enclosed allen wrench
