SVERO Electric Winch -1 SA
Read through these user instructions before using the winch. Improper operation may
lead to hazardous situations! These winches are intended solely for pulling. They are
delivered complete with wire rope and load hook and must be securely fixed to a stable
construction. Winches for 200 and 300 kg are single phase for plug connection to an
earthed single phase 230 V 50 Hz socket outlet. The winches for 500, 750 and 1000 kg
are only available in three-phase construction for 400 V 50 Hz and also have a plug, an
IEC 60309 connector, with an integral function allowing easy swapping of two phases.
Safety rules
•Check the winch and its function before use. The rope must be correctly wound
onto the drum. See Fig 3.
•Never exceed the maximum load.
•Attach the load with its load hook correctly to fixing eye, shackle or other working
point on the load. Never use the wire rope from the winch as a sling round a load.
•The winch must not be used for transporting persons.
•Make sure everyone keeps a safe distance from the load or wire rope.
•Protect the winch from rain etc.
•Ambient temperature -10°C – +40°C.
•Do not pull on the control or connection cable. Handle the winch with care.

Mounting the winch
Mount the winch on a stable construction with bolts of sufficient bearing capacity.
The wire rope
Winches are supplied with a wound-on wire rope fitted with load hook. Make sure the
wire rope is correctly wound onto the drum. See Figs. 3, 4 and 5. There must be at
least three rope turns on the rope drum when the rope is fully uncoiled. The rope exit
should be from the underside of the rope drum as shown on Fig. 6 to ensure minimum
strain on the winch fixings.
WARNING:
If the load hook is let out too far and the rope drum continues rotating, the rope will be
wound onto the drum again but in the wrong direction. This will damage the rope by
bending it in the opposite direction at the fixing. Risk of injury to persons and damage to
property.
Damaged rope must be replaced with new. See “Replacing the wire rope” on page 6.
Electrical connection
The single-phase model includes a connection cable (2.8 m) with earthed plug. This is
connected to a single-phase 230 V earthed socket outlet. Fuse 10 A, time-delay.
The three-phase model also has a connection cable (2.8 m) with an IEC 60309
connector for three-phase 400 V 50 Hz mains current. Check direction of rotation
immediately after connection. In the case of wrong direction, swap two phases. The
IEC 60309 connector has integral phase changeover for practical swapping of two
phases bearing in mind that the winch will often be used on different work sites.
NB If a three-phase winch is moved to a different work site, the direction of rotation
must always be checked before using the winch at the new work site.

Operation
Three-phase winches are operated with 24V control voltage. The control device with
2.8 m of rubber cable has one white and one black control button, with direction arrows
for IN and OUT respectively. Pressing the white control button must wind the rope onto
the drum (IN). In the case of wrong direction of rotation on the three-phase winch,
switch two phases, see above under Electrical connection.
There is also an EMERGENCY STOP device coloured red. If the emergency stop is
pressed, it can be reset by turning the red knob clockwise or by pulling the button out.
Attachment of loads
NB Improper attachment of loads can be highly dangerous (see Figs. 7, 8 and 9).
NB The winch is NOT fitted with limit switches. Always maintain an overview over the
load and the work area. Never leave a loaded winch unattended.
Checking with a test load
Check the winch before first use on a new work site. It is important to check the load-
bearing capacity of the fixing construction. Test it with a maximum load plus 10 %.
Make sure the load is not anchored to the ground or otherwise fixed.
All persons to keep a safe distance.
Daily checks
Before each working day on which the winch is used, the following must be checked:
• Is the winch or hook deformed or otherwise damaged?
• The rope must not be kinked, deformed or have broken wires.
• The brake function must be intact.
In the event of faults or failures, the winch must be carefully checked and if necessary
repaired by a specialist before reuse. If the rope is damaged it must be replaced.
Continuous inspection
Wipe down the winch as necessary. Check and oil the hook latch.

Periodic checks
Periodic checks are normally carried out yearly to detect and remedy any faults. Check
the winch and its fixings and the condition and fixing of the rope and hooks. See also
Page 7.
Repairs
Winches must not be modified or the lifting purpose etc. altered. Repairs must be
carried out by specialists. Replace damaged parts with original SVERO parts. Order
them through your dealer.
Replacing wire rope
When replacing the wire rope, be sure to choose
the right rope (diameter and construction) as
indicated in "Technical data". Insert the end of the
new rope in the hole in the drum and pull it
towards the integral clamp with Allen bolt, see Fig.
10. Wind it on without twisting and ensure that the
rope lies evenly and closely spaced, as shown on
Fig. 3.

Troubleshooting
