Quick Start Guide

Preparing the Reader

Install the supplied battery

1 Pull out the media slot cover , push portion to slide the

battery cover on the rear to the left and remove it , then

insert the supplied battery pack with the label side facing up,

and the connectors aligned .

2 Place the battery cover so that all the tabs are inserted into

their slots , slide the battery cover to the right until it clicks

, then attach the media slot cover .

Make sure that there is no gap around the edge of the Reader

when closed.

Displays the option menu.

Allows you to view in 6 text

sizes.

 (Home) button

Displays the “Home” menu.

<> (Page Turn) buttons

Turns the page.

Provides precise touch

The Reader Daily Edition features an intuitive, easy-to-use touch

screen.

You can shop at the online “Reader Store” and choose from among

thousands of eBooks via 3G wireless network or via the “Reader

Library” software on your PC or Mac.

Accessing the Reader Store

First, make sure that the WIRELESS switch is set to ON. When the

wireless status icon that is displayed in the bottom left of the screen

shows or , a wireless network is available.

To access the Reader Store, tap the “Store” tab in the “Home”

menu. In your first visit, the store registration window appears.

If you cannot access the Reader Store, refer to the User’s Guide that is

stored in the “Books” list.

Getting eBooks

Charge the installed battery

Connect the AC adapter to the DC IN jack of the Reader, then

connect the AC adapter to an AC outlet using the power cord.

The Reader requires about 2.5 hours to fully charge, after which

the charge/busy indicator (lights up red while charging) goes off.

Complete the initial settings

Slide the POWER switch to turn on the Reader, then complete the

initial settings.

Reading eBooks

Some sample content is pre-loaded. Sample content is provided to

allow you to start reading right away.

1 Press the (Home) button, then tap “Books” 

2 Swipe your finger on the touch screen, or press the < >

(Page Turn) buttons.

To return to the “Books” list from the book page, press the OPTIONS

button, then tap “Return to List.”



To return to the “Home” menu, press the (Home) button.

steps.

1 Press the (Home) button.

2 Tap “Books.”

3 Tap “User’s Guide.”

The Reader Store registration

In order to purchase and download eBooks or periodicals, you need

to register an account at the Reader Store, or if you already have a

Reader Store account or Sony Style account, you can sign in via

your e-mail address and password using the on-screen keyboard.

Browsing the Reader Store

Browse the Reader Store to find your desired books and purchase

them by following the on-screen instructions. You can find your

purchased books in the “Home” menu.

Accessing the Reader Store via

Reader Library

You can also access the Reader Store via Reader Library on your

computer. You can install Reader Library by launching the installer

(stored on the Reader). For details, refer to the User’s Guide.
