• Flammable liquid and fumes can ignite
Wear safety shield (user and bystanders).
Use only in well-ventilated areas.
Read and follow instructions.
Flames or explosion can cause injury.
• Pressurized equipment, systems or
tanks can break or leak
Do not exceed the maximum pressure
rating of equipment. Wear safety goggles
or shield and protective clothing
appropriate to the uid.
Pressurized uid striking the body can
cause personal injury. Flammable uids
such as gasoline, propane, etc. can ignite
or explode and cause injury.
• Fluids can leak or escape
Use only in well-ventilated areas.
Breathing vapors or uids from leaks can
cause illness or injury.
• Pressurized air or uid stream can
propel dust or particles
Do not direct air or uid stream at your
body or at others.
Flying particles, air or uid entering body
can cause injury.

• Hot pressurized antifreeze/coolant can cause injury
Do not open or work on system when hot.
Removing the radiator cap while the system is hot
may cause the coolant to boil instantly, spewing
coolant over the engine, fenders and persons nearby.

COOLING SYSTEM TESTING
ONLY WORK ON A COOL ENGINE!
1. With the radiator cool, carefully remove the pressure cap from the radiator or
service tank.
2. Check coolant level. Fill to recommended level.
3. Clean the inside of cap opening. Inspect the sealing surface, make sure it is in
good condition.
4. Check the overflow tube/passage for dents or internal obstruction. Pressure
released by the cooling system during vehicle operation must pass through
this tube.
5. Install tool onto cooling system. When an adaptor is required, install adaptor
first. Always wet the rubber gasket of the adaptor and tester head before
attaching onto cooling system. NOTE: To attach the pump to the adaptor or
cap opening keep the locking ears in line with the entrance notches of the
opening. Press down slightly and rotate the tester head
LEVER
clockwise until
the lever climbs up, onto (Fig 1), and completely over ramp cams (Fig 2) so
that the tester head is fully engaged and sealed.
To test radiator with 1” deep filler necks, insert 1/4” thick Rubber Spacer Washer
prior to connecting the tester head to cap opening.
6. Once the tester head is attached to the radiator/adaptor, operate the pump
until the gauge indicates the rated pressure of the system being tested.
4
NEVER TEST A SYSTEM BEYOND THE MAXIMUM PRESSURE SPECIFIED.
Check manufacturer specifications to determine the proper pressure cap for each
system. DO NOT allow the pressure to build up past the maximum for the system
being tested.
IMPORTANT: This tester is designed to release pressure slightly above 30 psi (205
kilopascal).

INTERPRETATION OF RESULTS
A. Gauge Pressure Stable:
If the gauge does not drop over a period of several minutes there are no serious
leaks in the system. Examine all joints for seepage or slight leakage.
B. Gauge Pressure Drops Slowly:
A small leak is likely present. Check radiator, water pump, hoses, gaskets and
heater. After repairing leaks, re-test system.
C. Gauge Pressure Drops Quickly:
A large leak is present. Look for any external sign of coolant. If no coolant is
visible, an internal leak is indicated. Check heater core, engine oil and
transmission fluid.
Detection of compression or combustion leakage into the cooling system.
A. With the COOLING SYSTEM COOL, remove cap. Install pump onto system.
B. Start engine and let idle. As engine warms up, watch pressure gauge. If gauge
pressure vibrates or rises rapidly, turn off engine immediately. DO NOT ALLOW
THE PRESSURE TO EXCEED THE SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS. A vibrating or fast
pressure rise indicates a blown head gasket. Carefully remove tester after
system cools.
Once testing is complete, release pressure in the cooling system by turning the
tester head
LEVER
clockwise until it moves up the ramp cams (Fig 1). With pressure
released, rotate tester
HEAD
counter-clockwise to remove.

TESTING PRESSURE CAPS
A pressure pump and a cap adaptor are required to test the cooling system cap. This
kit does not include cap adaptors. Cap adaptors are available, contact you sales
representative or outlet.
1. Carefully remove pressure cap from the radiator when system is COOL.
2. Check cap and verify it is the correct pressure range for the system.
3. Make sure that all parts of the cap, tester head and adaptor are clean and free
from defects. So not attempt to readjust the components, replace defective parts
as necessary.
4. Apply water to rubber gasket of pressure cap and install on the radiator cap
adaptor. Apply water to the rubber gasket of pump and install on the other end
of the radiator cap adaptor.
Hold tester with radiator cap adaptor hanging down. (Some pressure caps have a
free of loose relief valve and will not seal unless testing in this inverted position).
5. Operate the pump, watching the pressure gauge. Check the pressure at which
the cap starts to relieve pressure. Compare with cap pressure rating. The cap
must hold pressure below its rating. It must relieve pressure above its rating.
A cap is satisfactory if it holds the proper test range for one minute or more.
If the gauge indicator hand falls quickly, replace the cap. Replace the cap if it
does not perform properly.
