SAFETY RECOMMENDATIONS
As high pressures constitute a potential safety risk, the following instructions
must be considered:
• The equipment should only be operated by trained personnel.
• Always follow the operating instructions.
• Check the air-driven oil pump and all accessories carefully before use. Never
use even slightly damaged components.
• The air-driven oil pumps should only be connected to a clean and dry air
supply.
• Make sure all air has been removed from the hydraulic system, before
pressurising the air-driven oil pump.
• Always use a pressure gauge.
• Always prevent the workpiece/tool from being projected upon sudden release
of pressure (e.g. by use of retaining nut).
• Never use the equipment above the stated maximum hydraulic pressure.
• Never exceed the stated maximum air pressure.
• Never use the air-driven oil pumps together with accessories, which are rated
below the maximum pressure of the air-driven oil pump.
• Use protective goggles.
• Never modify the unit.
• Use original parts only.
• Only use clean, recommended hydraulic oils
(e.g. SKF LHMF 300, LHDF 900 or similar).
• In case of any uncertainties as regards the use of the air-driven oil pump,
contact SKF.

1APPLICATION
The THAP air-driven pumps are available in two different versions. They are used
for mounting and dismounting OK-couplings, for large pressure joints like
bearings, fly wheels, railway wheels and in many other similar applications. By
using air-driven pumps, a considerable amount of time can be saved compared to
hand operated equipment. For oil pressures higher than 150 MPa (21,750 psi),
consider using the THAP 300E.
2 DESCRIPTION
The THAP generates the high oil pressure with an air-driven hydraulic pump.
Connect only to a dry and clean air supply. The pumps are delivered ready for use
in a transport box, complete with suction hose, return hose and quick connection
couplings. They are equipped with a male G 3/4" connection, to be screwed directly
into the workpiece. As alternative, they can also be used in combination with the
appropriate SKF hydraulic accessories. Complete sets consisting of the air-driven
pump and the appropriate accessories are shown in section 5.

4 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

a) Connect the pump to the workpiece, directly or via a high pressure hose.
b) Close air valve (6) and connect the air line (1) the oil suction hose (2) and the
oil return hose (3).
c) Drop the free end of the oil hoses into an oil container and make sure that the
oil suction hose is well secured in the oil.
d) Make sure the release valve (5) is open and start the pump by opening the air
valve (6). Let the pump run until no air bubbles can be seen in the return hose (3).
e) Now close the release valve (5) and the pump will start injecting oil.

The complete sets consist of an air driven pump and accessories, such as adapter
block, pressure gauge, high pressure hose with quick connection couplings and
connection nipples. The following sets are available:
6MAINTENANCE
• It is recommended to clean the oil suction filter regularly (which is situated
directly behind the oil inlet). If correctly used, no other maintenance is
required.
• Make sure the oil is perfectly clean, as any dirt will cause severe wear and
ultimately failure to the pump.
• SKF recommends the use of SKF Mounting Fluid LHMF 300 and SKF
Dismounting Fluid LHDF 900, for mounting and dismounting.
