Battery operation
The use of alkaline batteries is strongly recommended. Other battery types
can be used, including Nickel Metal-Hydride (Ni-MH) rechargeable batteries,
but these will give very much reduced operating times compared to alkaline
batteries. Rechargeable batteries cannot be recharged inside the radio.
1. Release the catch securing the rear battery compartment door of your
radio and lift up the battery compartment cover.
2. Insert two LR20 (D size) batteries into the spaces in the compartment.
Take care to ensure all batteries are inserted with the correct polarity
as shown inside the battery compartment. Replace the battery cover
and close the rear door and secure the catch.
3. Reduced power, distortion, and a 'stuttering' sound are all signs that
the batteries may need replacing. The batteries should be replaced
when 'Battery low' shows on the display.
4. If the radio is not to be used for any extended period of time it is
recommended that the batteries are removed from the radio.
IMPORTANT: The batteries should not be exposed to excessive heat
such as sunshine, fire or the like.After use, disposable batteries should
if possible be taken to a suitable recycling centre. On no account
should batteries be disposed of by incineration.

Using the fixing brackets
The radio is supplied with a mounting bracket to allow wall mounting (for
example in a bathroom).
1. Use the bracket as a template to mark the hole positions before drilling.
Take care to ensure that there are no cables or pipes in the wall near
the hole locations.
2. Use screw fixings appropriate to the wall type. Do not overtighten the
screws.
3. The radio may be hung on the bracket as shown.
4. The radio can be removed by lifting it off the bracket.
DAB / FM wire aerial (inside battery compartment)
1. Release the catch securing the rear battery compartment door of your
radio.
2. Take out the wire DAB / FM aerial and extend and position for the best
reception.

Swivel hanger / handle
The multi purpose handle may be used to hang or carry the radio if not
using the supplied mounting brackets.
IMPORTANT : If the handle is used to hang the radio, make sure that the
handle is locked with the loop closed so that the radio cannot fall if it is
accidentally knocked.
Operation via an AC adaptor (not supplied)
The AC adaptor for use with your Splash radio should provide 5 volts DC
output at 600mA centre pin positive.
1. Insert the adaptor plug into the DC socket located on the left hand
side of your radio.
2. Plug the adaptor into a standard 13 amp mains socket outlet. Whenever
the adaptor is used the batteries are automatically disconnected.
• IMPORTANT: The mains adaptor is used as the means of connecting
the radio to the mains supply. The mains socket used
for the radio must remain accessible during normal use. In order
to disconnect the radio from the mains completely, the mains
adaptor should be removed from the mains socket outlet
completely.
• IMPORTANT: The Splash radio should not be used with the mains
adaptor in a bathroom, shower or poolside environment. Use on
batteries only.

Operating your radio
1. Fully extend the wire aerial located on the rear of your radio (inside the
battery compartment). Place the wire antenna so that it is as straight
as possible extending either above or below the radio.
2. Press the On / Off button to switch on your radio. The display will
show 'Welcome to Digital Radio'. After a short time the current time
will appear on the display.
3. If this is the first time the radio is used a scan of Band III DAB channels
may be carried out. If the radio has been used before, the last used
station will be selected.
4. When first switched on, the first station in the list of stations found will
be played. The display will show the station name on the upper line
of the text display and broadcast information on the lower line.
5. If the station list is still empty after the scan operation or if there are no
signals found it may be necessary to relocate your radio to a position
giving better reception, and then repeat the scan using the Auto-tune
facility (see 'Finding new stations' on page 11).
Note: that radio station name and frequency displays shown in this user
guide may differ from those that you see on your radio. Broadcasters may
change radio station names that are transmitted, and the frequencies
used for DAB and FM radio stations may not be the same in all parts of
the country.

Selecting a station - DAB
1. Press the On / Off button to switch on your radio.
2. Press and release the Band button until the DAB mode is selected.
The display will show the name of the radio station currently selected.
3. Press the Tuning Up or Down buttons to step through the list of
available stations.
4. When the desired station name appears on the display, press and
release the Select button to select the station. The display will show
'Now tuning' while your radio finds the new station.
5. Adjust the Volume control to the required setting.
Note: If after selecting a station the display shows 'Service not available' it
may be necessary to relocate your radio to a position giving better reception.
Secondary services - DAB
1. Certain radio stations have one or more secondary services associated
with them. If a station has a secondary service associated with it then
the secondary service will then appear immediately after the primary
service as you press the Tuning Up button.
2. To tune to the secondary service, press and release the Select button.
Most secondary services do not broadcast continually and if the selected
service is not available, the radio will re-tune to the associated primary
service.
