FOREWORD

The

CTC

chassis

represents

the

first

a "

new

breed"

RCA

all-

solid-state

color

television

receivers.

This

particularly

true

from

the

standpoint

servicing.

The

extensive

use

plug-in

circuit

modules,

eleven

all,

tuner

which

may

exchanged

without

the

need

for

realignment

the

coupling

circuit

the

amplifier,

solid-state

high-

voltage

quadrupler,

which

essentially

another

module,

and

the

use

plug-in

transistors

makes

possible

correct

most

failures

with

very

little

servicing

effort.

usual

was

devoted

three

reasons.

First,

some

the

circuitry

bears

resemblance

earlier

RCA

chassis.

This

true

tuner,

AFT,

and

horizontal

deflection

system,

which

are

similar

their

counterparts

either

the

CTC

chassis;

and

the

sound

module

which

almost

identical

the

one

used

the

CTC

41, 42,

and

chassis.

Second,

integrated

circuits

are

used

the

and

chroma

circuits,

and

stage-

by-

stage

analysis

these

systems

has

little

value

the

service

technician,

since

many

active

devices

are

packaged

single

unit.

Third,

since

most

repairs

can

accomplished

most

readily

module

replacement,

rather

than

replacement

single

component,

intimate

knowledge

the

function

each

part

module

not

essential

the technician.

Complete

schematic

diagrams

the

various

circuits

were

used

instead

partial

simplified

diagrams.

This

will

allow

the

technician

identify

all

components

particular

circuit

without

tracing

the

interconnecting

lines

used

the

complete

instrument

schematic

which

bound

the

back

of this

manual.

Whenever

possible

the

location

components

the

diagrams

located

the

text

indicated;

however,

the

complete

instrument

schematic

should

consulted

verify

component

locations

and

intermodule

connections.

Servicing

information

contained

this

manual

divided

into

two

chapters.

The

first

these

discusses

techniques

and

procedures

for

rapid

servicing

either

the

home

the

shop.

The

final

chapter

goes

into

greater

detail

and

considers

those areas

servicing

which

require

the

facilities

and

equipment

normally

found

only

the

service

shop.

GENERAL

DESCRIPTION

The

RCA

CTC

chassis

fourth-

generation

solid-state

color

receiver,

employing,

for

the

first

time,

plug-in

modules

for

most

the

essential

functions.

The

CTC

chassis,

introduced

1968,

the

first

the

RCA

solid-state

color

receivers;

however,

vacuum-

tube

high-

voltage

rectifier

was

used

that

instrument.

order

RCA

CTC

chassis (

the

G-2000),

which

was

released

1969.

This

instrument

re-

tained

most

the

circuits

used

the

CTC

40,

but

several

significant

changes

were

incorporated

its

design.

The

electronically

tuned

VHF

tuner

and

signal-

seeking

UHF

tuner

the

CTC

are

im-

portant

advances

the

state

the

electronic

art,

and

because

their

spectacular

perform-

ance

they

tend

overshadow

two

other

important

advances.

These

are

solid-state

high-

voltage

rec-

tification,

using

voltage

quadrupler,

and

motor-

less

remote

control,

volume,

tint,

and

color.

The

RCA

CTC

chassis

represents

the

third

gen-

eration

solid-state

color

receivers

and

corn-

prises

many

the

basic

circuit

configurations

the

CTC

40,

upgraded

many

respects,

plus

the

high-

voltage

quadrupler

and

motorless

remote

control

volume,

tint,

and

color,

from

the

CTC

47.

The

CTC

natural

outgrowth

these

prede-

cessors;

however

number

radical

changes

have

been

made.

Two

these

are

perhaps

equal-

significant.

These

are

modular

construction,

and

the

extensive

use

integrated

circuits.

Other

ad-

vances

include

active

side-

pincushion

correction,

transformerless

vertical

output,

matrixing

the

color-

difference

and

luminance

signals

before

they

are

fed

the

kinescope,

significant

changes

the

convergence

circuits,

and

kinescope.
