Introduction
PRE14B is a pre-amplifier with low output impedance and very high transparency, 4
selectable inputs and a relay switched volume control built with discrete resistors
Content of delivery
1. Amplifier PRE14B
2. Remote control
Unpacking
Put the box on a table or other steady surface. Open the box and put the amplifier on a
steady surface with the front panel facing towards you.
Setup
Connect the amplifier to the mains voltage with a standard IEC 320 mains cable.
Connect signal sources to the connector inputs.
Connect a power amplifier to the connectors marked output.
Function
The amplifier is equipped with RCA phono and XLR connectors for input and output
signals. The active circuits in the amplifier is powered by an advanced power supply with
controlled start up sequences in order to prolong life of tubes and avoid any voltage
transients on the output.
Start up procedure
Check that the front push button switch is not pushed in. Switch on the mains switch on
the back panel to position 1. Push in the front panel bush button, after about 90 seconds
the area around the front panel push button will be lit green and the amplifier is ready for
operation.
Controls and connectors
Front panel
On switch with integrated on indicator, this is a switch button which when pushed in will
start the switch on sequence of the amplifier. The area around the switch button will light
up with green color after approximately 90 seconds.
Combined volume control and channel selector knob. Volume level is controlled by
turning the knob and channel is changed by pushing the knob slightly inwards.

Indicator display. This display indicates volume level from 0 to 64 where 0 is lowest
volume and 64 is max volume. When channel is changed either by pushing the control
knob or by the remote control the channel is shown momentarily by C1 to C4
Back panel
Input connectors left and right
Connectors marked 1 and 2 These connectors accept standard XLR male plugs
Connectors marked 3 and 4 These connectors accept standard RCAphono plugs
Output connectors left and right
Connectors marked 1 These connectors accept standard RCA phono plugs
Connectors marked 2 These connectors accept standard XLR female plugs
Mains power inlet with integrated fuse holder and mains switch.
The power inlet accepts a standard power cord with IEC320 plug. The 2 mains fuses can
be accessed if the power cord is removed and the fuse cover/holder is removed, replace
the fuses only with fuses of same rating, (for 230VAC mains power fuse rating is 2A slow
blow and for 120VAC mains power fuse rating is 4A slow blow). The mains switch power
up the amplifier if it is set to position 1, in position 0 the amplifier is disconnected from
mains power.
Remote control
The remote control can be used to adjust volume or to change channel, there is also a
muting function where the volume can be toggled between actual setting and 0 and back
again.
To increase/decrease volume push on the upper or lower part of the large black circle.
To change channel push the right or left part of the large black circle. For muting push
the center button in the large black circle.
