to take full advantage of the functions of this product. Also read the

This manual is for the network board (model name: N-31S/N-31W/N-314), providing how to use this product

on a network.

For using the network board, refer to the separate “N-31 Series User’s Manual”.

Meaning of the Terms Used in this Manual

Simple Network Settings (via USB)

Uponpurchase(bydefault),thenetworkboard’sIPaddressandsubnetmaskarenotyetset.Whenfirstconnecting

thenetworkboardtoanetworktouseit,usethesimplenetworksettingstosetthenetworkboard’sIPaddresson

thenetworkfollowingtheprocedurebelow.

• Whenmakingnetworksettings,followingtheinstructionsofthenetworkadministrator.

• Itisnotpossibletoformatthecomputerstoragememoryfromthecomputer.

• Donotpressoperationbuttonsonthenetworkboardwhilethecomputerstoragememoryisbeingaccessedfromthecom-

puter.Doingsowillresultinincreasedtimeforresponsebetweenthecomputerandnetworkboard,andoperationsmaynot

bepossible.

Turn on the network board’s power and connect the network board’s computer USB port for

(type B) to the computer using a USB cable.

• Thestandarddriveris installedautomaticallyand thenetwork boardis recognizedbythecomputer asaremovable

device.

Open “My Computer”, and in this open the network board (removable device).

1 Double-clickthe“MyComputer”(or“Computer”)icontoopen.

2 Double-clickthenetworkboard(displayreferstomodelname)toopenthenetworkboard’scomputerstoragememory.

• Tocheckthatthenetworkboardisoperatingasadevice,right-click“MyComputer”(or“Computer”)todisplaythe

menu,then checkthat “PLUS Copyboard USB Device” isdisplayed asthe diskdrive name at “Management”→

“DeviceManager”forWindows7.

Use a program on the computer (Notepad, etc.) to open the “setting.ini” file in the “setup”

folder.

1 Double-clickthe“setup”foldertoopenit.

2 Openthe“setting.ini”file(textformat)locatedinthisfolderusingNotepadoranotherprogramonthecomputerand

directlyoverwritethecontentsofthesettingsfile.

• Theonlycharactersthatcanbeinputarenumbersandperiods.

 Donotinsertanyspaces.Ifso,thefilewillbeidentifiedascorruptwhenthenetworkboardisstartedandtheset-

tingswillberesettothedefaults.

Save the “setting.ini” settings file, overwriting the

previous file.

Savetolocation:“setup” folder on network board (removable

disk)

• We recommend making a note of changed settings for future

reference.

Check the connection.

1 ConnectoneendoftheLANcabletotheLANportofthelower

side of the network board and connect the other end of the

LANcabletoanetworkdevicesuchasarouterandaswitch-

inghub.

2 Launch a web browser (ex.: Internet Explorer) on a computer

connectedtonetwork.

3 In the address field, input the IP address that was set or the

terminalnameofthenetworkboard,andthenpressthe[Enter]

key.

Whenthenetworkboardhasbeencorrectlyconnectedtonet-

work,theuserauthenticationscreenappears.

• Nopasswordissetuponpurchase.

Input“admin”inalphanumericcharactersintheUserName

fieldandclick[OK].

If the network board’s top screen does not open

• HaveyoumadeamistakeinputtingtheIPaddressthatwasset?

• Isthenetworkboard’sLANterminalproperlyconnectedtoaLANportonthenetwork?

• Whenusingaproxyserver,addthenetworkboard’sIPaddresstothe“Exceptions”intheproxy’ssettingstosetso

thattheproxyisnotused.

IfDHCPissetto[Off](defaultsettinguponpurchase),theproblemmaybecausedbythefollowing:

• IstheIPaddressthatwassetbeingusedbyanotherdevice?

• Ifmultipleunitsofthisnetworkboardareconnected,aretheyconnectedtothenetworkwiththesameIPaddress?

• IstheIPaddressthatwassetwithintheautomaticacquisitionrangeoftheDHCPoftherouter,etc.?

Making Detailed Settings (via LAN)

Usethisproceduretomakethenetworkboarddevicesettings(“CBSetup”),networksettings,etc.,withthenetworkboardcon-

nectedtoalocalareanetwork(hereafterreferredtoas“LAN”or“thenetwork”)usingacomputer’swebbrowser.

Accessauthorityisrequiredtomakethedetailedsettings.Therearetwolevelsofauthority–“administratorauthority”and“filelist

browsingauthority”.Theselectablemenuitems(somesettingitems)arerestrictedaccordingly.Toregistertheadministrator,see

“AdministratorMenu—UserSetting”onpageE-15andtoregistertheuser,see“NetworkSetting—SaveSetting”onpageE-13.

• Whenconnectingthenetworkboardtothenetwork,besuretoconsultthenetworkadministratorbeforemakingtheset-

tings.

• Dependingonthenetworkbeingused,thedisplayspeedandbuttonresponsemaybeslowandoperationsmaynotbe

performed. If this happens, consult your network administrator. Also, the network board may not respond if buttons are

operatedsuccessively.Inthiscase,waitawhilethenoperateagain.Ifthereisnoresponseafterawhile,turnoffthenetwork

board’spower,thenturnthepowerbackon.

• Ifthetopscreendoesnotdisplaywithawebbrowser,pressthe[Ctrl]+[F5]keystorefreshthewebbrowser’sscreen.

• ThenetworkboardusesJavaScriptandcookies.Setthewebbrowsersothatthesefunctionswilloperate.

• Thenetworkboardperformsautomaticpagereading(redirecting).Setthewebbrowsersothatthisfunctionwilloperate.

• WithSSLenabledonHTTP,asecuritycertificatewarningisdisplayedwhenthiswebsiteisaccessedbytheWebbrowser.

Inthiscase,select“Continuetothiswebsite(notrecommended)”tocontinueyouroperation.

Basic Setting Operations

Hereweexplainhowtodisplayandclosethesettingsscreens,usingtheInternetExplorerwebbrowserasanexample.

Preparations:

1.UseaLANcabletoconnectthenetworkboard’sLANterminaltotheLANportontheswitchinghub.

2.Turnonthenetworkboard’spower.

Launch the web browser on the computer con-

nected to the network.

“Pagecannotbedisplayed”mayinsomecasesappear,butsim-

plycontinuetothenextstep.

Input the network board’s IP address.

Inthewebbrowser’sURLfield,inputtheIPaddressthatwasset,

and then press the [Enter] key. Entry must be in alphanumeric

characters. When the network board has been correctly con-

nectedtonetwork,theuserauthenticationscreenappears.

InputtheUserNameandPassword,andthenclick[OK].

• Nopasswordissetuponpurchase.Input“admin”inalphanu-

mericcharactersintheUserNamefieldandclick[OK].

Note

• Theusernameandpasswordarecasesensitive.Besure

toinputthemproperly.

• The account is locked after three incorrect password

attempts. To unlock, unplug the power cord from the

poweroutletthenplugitbackin.

Connecting the network board to the network upon pur-

chase

Uponpurchase,thenetworkboard’sIPaddressandsubnetmask

are not yet set. Be sure to check the section “Simple Network

Settings(viaUSB)”(seepageE-4)andsettheIPaddress,etc.

From the menu, click the desired setting item.

Make the changes or settings.

Selecting and inputting

Radio buttons

Oneoftheselectionitemscanbeselected.When isclicked,it

switchesto .

Whenaboxisclicked,thearrowcursorswitchestothe“|”char-

acterinputcursor.Inputcharactersinthesamewayasyouwould

onacomputer.

Setup button

When clicked, the settings/changes are sent to the network

board,overwritingprevioussettings.

Onceoverwritingiscompleted,the“CBSetup”pageswitchesto

the“Setupiscompleted”characterdisplay.

• If the IP address in the network settings, etc., has been

changed,thenetworkboardreboots.(SeepageE-11.)

After making settings or changes, be sure to click the

“Setup” button to overwrite the previous settings on the

network board.

Whenthe“GetCurrentTime”buttonisclicked,thedisplayswitchesto

thecomputer’scurrenttime.Thiseliminatestheneedtomakethecur-

rentdateandtimesetting.
