Planet eStream VBOX Application guide

If you are looking to pick up Freeview or satellite channels and view them through Planet eStream or use the channels
as part of your digital signage displays, an IPTV streaming device will allow you to do this.
The IPTV streaming device receives a digital Freeview signal or a satellite signal through built in tuner cards. The tuner
cards can be configured to monitor the desired frequencies and receive the required channels. These channels can then
be broadcast over a network using multicast traffic to be received as Live TV channels, and can be added to Planet
eStream where they can be viewed through the web interface and used in digital signage.

Locally Hosted Installation
The Planet eStream team will fully test the device before it is sent out. This will ensure that the device is working
properly and is able to pick up Freeview or Satellite channels depending on the model that has been ordered.
As the streaming device uses frequencies that are only available at your location using your aerial, the device does not
come pre-configured to work with your frequencies. This is something that needs to be configured once the streaming
device is installed and on your network.
The IPTV Streaming Device will first need a Cat 5e or Cat 6 Ethernet cable into the LAN connector on the back of the
device to connect your network. You can then plug in your Freeview or Satellite aerial connection.
Once the network and aerial connections are plugged in, plug in the power cable and turn on the main power switch on
the back of the unit. A red status light should now show to indicate the device has power, to switch on the device you
can then press the power button on the front of the box. After around 30 seconds the device should initialise and show
a green status light.
The device will be set to use DHCP and should be given an IP address automatically by your network.
You can find the VBOX IP address by going to a Windows Explorer window and going to the “Network” tab. Here under
the “Media Devices” section you should see your VBOX.
From here you can right click and select properties. This should tell you the IP address.
In this example the IP address is 192.168.1.52
Pre-Configuration
Setup Instructions

Once you have the IP address go to a web browser and type the IP address into the address bar. When prompted for
login the default username and password are as follows.
Once you are logged in the Planet eStream team recommend changing this password. You can change the password by
going to System > Manage > Change Password. You can also shut down or reboot the device from the web interface by
going to System > Manage > Restart.
Next if you go to System > Network this will give you a status of your network connection. You can change the network
setup to be either DHCP or a static IP address by clicking the “Update” link on the left hand side. If you select Static you
can enter your network details as required.
Please note if you change the IP address the device will reboot and you will need to navigate to the new IP address to
access the web interface again.
The next step would be to setup your tuners, the tuners will listen on frequencies for any broadcasting channels. To
setup the tuners click the “Tuner” tab at the top. This will show you a drop down list of all the tuners available to you, and
the status of each tuner when selected.

To add a frequency to your devices click the “Update” link on the left hand side. Type in the “Centre Frequency” in KHz
and click “Update”.
This will now take you back to the status tab. The signal strength and data lock indicators should show as green. Please
note it can take up to a minute for these values to change.
Once you have these settings entered, go to Streaming > Channels.
Please note it may take up to 1 minute for the initial detection of channels to complete.
Once detection is complete you should see a list of all the channels available across all tuner devices you have setup.
To stream a particular channel simply enter a multicast IP address and a port and click the “Start” button for that
channel. This saves the configuration and will start to broadcast the channel over your network. To stop a channel
broadcasting simply click the stop button for the required channel.
If you require any assistance with these settings please contact Planet eStream support.
In order to find out the channel set and frequency information of your Freeview transmitter you can go to http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/ and enter
your postcode into the coverage checker. You will need to select detailed view.

To test that you are receiving the live TV field you can use VLC Media Player. Within VLC select the Media menu and
select Open Network Stream and enter in your channel multicast IP address in the format:
udp://$MULTICAST_IP_ADDRESS$:$PORT$ and then select the Play button.
The video stream can take around 2-3 seconds to initially start.
Click Status on the left hand side to see an overview of all the channels that are currently broadcasting.
Please note that in order for this to work you will need to ensure that multicasting is enabled on your network, and that
any ports used are not being blocked by a firewall. Please contact the Planet eStream Support team for any advice here.
Now the channel is broadcasting over your network, you can add this to your Planet eStream website to be seen as a
Live TV channel which can then be viewed through the website and used in digital signage.
Firstly, log in to your eStream website as an Administrator. Then go to Tools > Admin > Media Management >
Custom Live Channels.
From this page you can click “Add Custom Channel”.
In the pop up window simply enter the name of the channel, and the broadcast URL including the IP address and port
information you have just set for the channel. An example of the Broadcast URL can be found on this page.
Once you have clicked confirm the channel will now be shown through your eStream website under View > Live TV or
within your Planet eSign screen designer.
