WLAN 223X/2270 Manufacture Discontinue Notice

The intent of this bulletin is to provide channel partner and customer notification of the

decision to manufacture discontinue the following products:

•WLAN Security Switch 2270

•WLAN Access Port 2230

•WLAN Access Port 2231

Last Time Order Date: April 30, 2006

Last Ship Date: June 30, 2006

Manufacture Discontinue (MD) Date: January 1, 2006

End of Life (EOL) Date: April 30, 2011

Last Supported Software Release: R2.2

Definition

Manufacture Discontinue (MD) – This notice serves as formal communication of Nortel’s*

intent to MD the WLAN Security Switch 2270, WLAN Access Ports 223x and dependant

products. No further orders will be accepted as of the Last Time Order Date shown above

and no further shipments made after the product has been discontinued. The MD of these

products should not be interpreted as the discontinuance of any Nortel agreements to

support the existing field population. Services to the existing product base will continue to

be provided until the End of Life (EOL) date shown above.

Description

The WLAN 223X/2270 products, also known as the Adaptive WLAN solution, were

introduced in 2004 to offer Nortel customers a centralized WLAN architecture option. These

products were sourced by Airespace Networks through an OEM relationship. Subsequently,

Cisco acquired Airespace, and Nortel has introduced the next generation WLAN 2300 series

to meet customer requirements for a scalable, secure and high performance WLAN solution

that supports mobile voice and multi-media services.

The product management team has made a decision to manufacture discontinue the WLAN

223X/2270 products for the following reasons:

1. The success of the WLAN 2300 series and its ability to meet the full range of

customer requirements has made the WLAN 223X/2270 products redundant for new

customer deployments.

2. Airespace products are aligning with alternate manufacturing arrangements, creating

an imminent discontinuity for the product line.

3. Nortel has been actively engaged with affected customers and has made every effort

to ensure that ongoing interests have been satisfied.

4. Discontinuing the WLAN 223X/2270 products will maintain efficient operations.

Nortel is committed to provide uninterrupted support for customers who have adopted the

WLAN 223X/2270 products. Repair services, technical support, and emergency recovery

are provided per published policies and/or the terms of associated customer contracts.

Nortel will provide Full support on software through April 30, 2007, with Limited support

thereafter until the EOL date of April 30, 2011. Nortel will provide Full support on hardware

through April 30, 2008, with Limited support thereafter until the EOL date of April 30, 2011.
