Using the Essential Load Unit
Before turning on the control unit:
Choose the correct size insole for the user. Left or
Right. Your unit comes with six sizes of insoles.
These should become the user’s to keep. You can
order more insoles via our website, or by contacting
Replacement or extra insoles are available in pairs
from size 35 –47 (Euro –Sizing). All insoles are
designed for taking the two sensor pads.
Take the heel and forefoot sensors.
.
Attach them on the Velcro on the heel and forefoot
underneath your insole.
Remove existing insole.
Put nCounters insole with sensors inside a runner
(sneaker).
User places foot into shoe. Plug each of the two
cables to the double adaptor, connected to the curly
cable.
Connect the plug to the input socket
of the Control Unit.
Ask user to press up and down on insole for 10
seconds to condition the sensors.
Ask user to place foot on set of scales to get weight
above which the user is to receive no feedback.

Turn on control unit using the side toggle switch. One
of the green or red LEDs will come on.
Set Target Range
The therapist needs to set the correct upper and
lower limits. Make sure the two dials are in the
following default positions:
•Upper limit dial fully clockwise (maximum
position)
•Lower limit dial fully anti-clockwise (minimum
position).
Firstly, program the lower limit. Turn this Lower Limit
dial clockwise until you hear a sound from the
speaker simultaneously the target weight is being put
through the insole.
Now get the upper limit by turning this dial
anticlockwise, until you hear a sound from the
speaker while weight is being put through the insole.
Finesse this dial a little (by turning clockwise) to
create your window.
In summary, when the client’s partial weight on the
insole is between the lower and upper limit values,
the client will hear no sound. If the weight shift is
outside these two limits, then the client will receive
feedback. The sound changes and increases in pitch
the further away the client gets from the target range.
Before using the headphones turn the volume control
back to minimum then slowly increase until the sound
is comfortable for the user.
FAQs
Q. Can I just use the heel sensor on its own?
A. Yes, If you are just using one sensor you will not
need the adaptor.
Q. Can the unit be set so user gets feedback only
when they reach the pre-set target?
A. Yes, turn lower limit dial fully anti clockwise and
adjust upper limit dial until a sound is generated
when target weight is being put through the insole.
