Before You Start
Please take note of the following before you start.
•Do not block the ventilation openings or holes.
•Avoid installing the unit in locations described be-
low:
•Places exposed to direct sunlight or close to
heat radiating appliances (such as electric
heaters, or on top of other stereo equipment
that radiate heat).
•Places lacking ventilation or dusty places.
•Places subject to constant vibration.
•Places that are humid or moist.
•Operate turning controls and switches as instruct-
ed in manual.
• Before turning on the power for the rst time, make
sure that the power cord is properly installed.
•Store your tapes or CD in a cool area to avoid dam-
age from heat.
CAUTION: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK,
DO DOT REMOVE COVER (OR BACK). NO USER SER-
VICEABLE PARTS INSIDE, REFER SERVICING TO QUALI-
FIED SERVICE PERSONNEL.
WARNING: Remove batteries if exhausted or if they will
not be used again for a long period. The incorrect use
of batteries can cause electrolyte leakage and will cor-
rode the compartment or cause the batteries to burst,
therefore:
•Do not mix battery types, e.g., alkaline with zinc
carbonate.
•When inserting newbatteries, replace all batteries
at the same time.

1 Antenna Extend the antenna fully and ad-
just its position to optimize radio
reception.
2 Handle Raise the handle to transport the
unit safely and easily.
3 CD compartment Load compact discs here. The label
side should face up.
4 CD door latch Press here to open/close the door of
the CD compartment [3].
Never open the compartment while
a CD is playing or spinning!
5 Speakers Full-range drivers deliver powerful
stereo sound.

6 STANDBY key
(Power)
Press to turn the player on or off.
7 Standby
indicator
Lights red when power is connected
and the player is in standby mode (i.e.,
off). When the player is on, the standby
indicator will turn off and the LCD screen
will turn on.
8X.BASS key Press to enable/disable bass boost.
9 VOLUME dial Turn to adjust the volume level.
10 AUX Input
jack
Play audio from a device that is con-
nected to this 3.5mm input jack.
11 LCD screen Displays player status information (e.g.,
the function mode, repeat/play mode,
radio frequency, and more.)
12 RADIO TUNING
dial
Turn the dial to tune to a radio station.
13 Microphone Use the built-in microphone to record
audio to cassette tape.

14 NEXT keyNext: Press to skip to the next track.
Forward: Press and hold to scan quickly
forward through the current track.
15 BACK key Back: Press to skip to the previous track.
Reverse: Press and hold to scan quickly in
reverse through the current track.
16 PROG/REPEAT
key
Press to enter Program mode when CD
playback is stopped.
Press to change the repeat play mode
while a CD is playing.
17 STOP key Press to stop CD playback.
18 PLAY/PAUSE
key
Press to start, pause, or resume CD
playback.
19 FUNCTION
key
Press to change the function mode (CD,
AUX, TAPE, FM, AM).

20 Cassette
compartment
Load cassette tapes for playback or
recording.
21 Record key Press down together with the cassette PLAY
key [22] to start recording.
22 PLAY key Press play to start tape playback.
23 REW key Rewind. Press to rewind the tape when
playback is stopped.
24 FFWD key Fast-forward. Press to fast forward
through the tape when playback is
stopped.
25 STOP/EJ key Stop/Eject. Press to stop tape playback.
When playback is stopped, press to open
the cassette compartment [20].
26 PAUSE key Press to pause tape playback or recording.
Depress the key again to resume playback
or recording.

Locks the right speaker in place when it is
connected to the main unit.
29 Battery
compartment
Load 8 UM-1 “D” size batteries into the
compartment for portable power.

Plug in the speaker cable from the left
speaker here.

(R)
Plug in the speaker cable from the right
speaker here.
32 AC Voltage
switch
Available only on models that support
dual-voltage. Make sure the switch is
correctly set to match your household
power supply.

About the Speakers
The speakers can be installed attached to or detached
from the main unit.
•Attach the speakers when you want to travel with
the unit.
•Detach the speakers and position them as far away
from each other as possible in order to increase
stereo separation.
Attaching the Speakers
1. Position the speaker next to the main unit so that:
•The top of the speaker rises one inch above the
top of the main unit, and
• The four hooks on the main unit sit ush inside
the rectangular indent on the speaker.
2. Slowly slide the speaker down until the retaining tab
on the speaker clicks into the speaker latch [30] on
the main unit.
