Quick Start Guide

for the W 5965 WPS

washing machine

These short instructions are not a substitute

for the Operating instructions supplied with the appliance.

Please read the Operating instructions supplied with

your washing machine before using it for the first time and

take note of the Warning and Safety instructions as well

as the full descriptions on how to use your machine. M.-Nr. 09 490 540

APrepare the laundry

^Empty all pockets.

,Foreign objects (e.g. nails,

coins, paper clips, etc.) can cause

damage to garments and

components in the machine.

BSort the laundry

^Sort the laundry by colour and by

care label. Most garments have a

textile care label in the collar or side

seam.

CSwitch on the washing machine

The interior drum lighting will come on.

It will go out a few minutes later to

save energy. To switch the drum

lighting back on, press the Door

button.

DSelect a programme

You have two possibilities for selecting

a programme:

Via the programme selector:

^Turn the programme selector to the

required programme.

Via the programmable function Further

programmes/Settings 4:

^Turn the programme selector to

Further programmes/Settings 4

and other programmes will be shown

in the display.

Steam care ,

^Push the Xor Ybutton to select the

programme you want. Confirm with

OK.

The selected programme will appear in

the display.

FSelecting Extras

^Select any Extras by pressing the

appropriate button. The relevant

indicator light will come on to show

which Extra has been selected.

^When selecting Further extras 4,

you may select from one of the

following Extras: Water plus,Extra

rinse,Pre-wash,Soak or Rinse hold.

GSelecting stains

You can select different stain options to

achieve the optimum washing result.

Extras will be automatically activated

with the wash cycle, depending on the

stains selected. With some stain

options you will receive additional tips

on how to pre-treat the stains. You can

select up to three stains per

programme.

If "Short" was selected previously, it will

be deactivated automatically.

^Press the Stains button.

Leave the Stains sub-menu by

pressing the Stains 4button.

HLoading the drum

^Press the Door button to open the

drum door.

The load size indicator display will

appear.

The display shows the amount of

laundry loaded in the drum asa%(in

25% steps) of the maximum load

permissible for the programme

selected.

^Unfold the laundry and load loosely

in the drum.

Mixing both large and small items gives

better wash results and also helps

distribute the load evenly during

spinning.

Important! Make sure that no

garments are caught between the

drum door and seal.

^Shut the door with a gentle swing.

IAdding detergent

When the door is closed, the load size

indicator will be replaced with the

detergent percentage display.

The detergent indicator shows the

quantity of detergent as a percentage

that must be added, based on the

information on the detergent

packaging.

^Pull out the detergent drawer and

place detergent in the compartments.

iDetergent for the pre-wash

jDetergent for the main wash,

including Soak if selected

§Fabric conditioner or liquid starch

JSelect Delay start (if required)

^Push the +button and select the

programme end.

KStarting a programme

^Press the flashing Start/Stop button.

LRemove the laundry when the

programme has finished.

,After using the steam function,

there is a danger of burning due to

escaping steam and the high

temperatures on the surface of the

drum and door glass. Step back and

wait until the steam has dissipated.

^Press the Door button to open the

drum door.

The machine will switch off

automatically 15 minutes after the

end of the Anti-crease phase. Push

the Kbutton to switch the machine

back on.

^Remove the laundry.

Check that all items have been

removed from the drum. Left items

might shrink in the next wash or

discolour other items.

^Check the folds in the door seal for

any small articles, e.g. buttons, which

might be lodged there.

Important!

Always remove the laundry before

switching the machine off. This is

important to ensure that the load size

indicator works correctly.

^Switch the machine off with the K

button.

^To avoid the build-up of mildew, it is

recommended that the door is left

ajar when the machine is not in use.

Programme chart

Further programmes are described in the Operating instructions and in the

programme packages booklet.

Cottons Cold to 90°C Max. load 8.0 kg

Item Cottons, linens or cotton mix fabrics, e.g. table linen, towelling,

underwear, T-shirts etc.

Note for test institutes:

Short programme: 4.0 kg load and Short Extra

Minimum iron Cold to 60°C Max. load 3.5 kg

Item Synthetics, mixed fibres and easy care cottons.

Note Reduce the spin speed for fabrics which crease easily.

Delicates Cold to 60°C Max. load 2.5 kg

Item For delicate garments made of synthetic fibres, mixed fibres, rayon

and easy care cottons. Also suitable for machine-washable silks.

Note For items which crease easily, deselect the spin.

Woollens /Cold to 40°C Max. load 2.0 kg

Item Machine-washable or hand-washable wool or wool blend fabrics. If

the care label does not specify a temperature, wash using the cold

setting.

Note Reduce the spin speed for fabrics which crease easily.

Hygiene 30°C to 90°C Max. load 7.0 kg

Item Fabrics which will be in direct contact with the skin, e.g. underwear,

nappies, towelling, bed linen, pillow and mattress covers.

Notes –Select a temperature of 60°C or higher for optimum hygiene.

–Please observe the instructions on the wash care label.

Express 20 Cold to 40°C Max. load 3.5 kg

Item Cotton items that are only lightly soiled.

Note The Extra option Short is automatically activated.

Freshen up Max. load 1.0 kg

Item Dry, unsoiled clothing that is lightly creased.

Notes –Small loads improve the final result.

–Remove laundry immediately after the programme has finished

and dry in a tumble dryer using Smoothing or Gentle smoothing,

or hang out to dry.

Automatic plus Cold to 40°C Max. load 5.0 kg

Item Mixed loads of garments suitable for the Cottons and Minimum iron

programmes. Sort according to colour.

Note The wash parameters (e.g. water level, wash rhythm and spin

speed) are adjusted automatically in this programme to ensure the

best possible care and wash result for each item.

Shirts Cold to 60°C Max. load 2.0 kg

Notes – Pre-treat collars and cuffs if necessary.

– Wash silk garments in the Silks /programme.

Denim Cold to 60°C Max. load 3.0 kg

Notes –Wash denim inside out.

–Denim often contains excess dye and will run during the first few

washes. Wash light and dark coloured items separately.
