GENERAL INFORMATION
Midian’s SVR-1-KW3 is a simplex repeater maker that can be installed into a Ken ood mobile or portable radio.
The SVR-1-KW3 detects COR or VOX from an incoming transmission and records the incoming audio (up to 3
minutes). When the COR or VOX is no longer detected the SVR-1-KW3 keys the radio and retransmits the
recorded audio. The SVR-1-KW3 enables users to create lo -cost vehicular repeaters or expand radio coverage
into poor coverage areas.

HARDWARE INSTALLATION
Be certain to follo standard anti-static procedures hen handling any of Midian’s products. Due to the design of
the radio it is necessary to install a PTT ire from the SVR-1-KW3 to the Ken ood radio.
PTT: In order to be able to automatically key the radio it is necessary to install a ire from the point sho n in the
picture belo to a point in the radio as discussed in the installation instructions for the desired model radio belo .
Kenwood NX- 00 & NX-300:
Connect the PTT ire above to the CN702 PTT2 pad sho n belo . Plug the unit into the options connector
(CN710) located behind the options door under the battery.
Kenwood NX-700 & NX-800:
Connect the PTT ire to J901 Pin 5 PTT/TXD as sho belo or to an assignable pin on the DB25 connector.
Plug the unit onto the options connector CN-595.

PRODUCT PROGRAMMING
Midian’s SVR-1-KW3 is programmed through the radio using the radio’s programming cable (KPG-36 or KPG-46)
and Midian’s MPS programming soft are. From the product selection screen in the MPS soft are, select the
SVR-1-KW3 from the list and click OK. Note: The radio firm are must be at least 2.00.00.01 and the radio
programming soft are must be KPG-111D version 2.00 or higher.
Set the parameters of the soft are to fit the application. If any clarifications on a feature are required, move the
mouse cursor over the feature name until the question mark appears and right click, a definition of the feature ill
be sho n. Note: On the General settings tab the “Program Through Radio Enable” box must be checked.
After entering the parameters, save the file by going to File - Save As. Enter the file name in the File Name block
and click Save. Saving the file ill allo for quick and easy reprogramming of units.
Important Note: Upon entering through the radio programming mode, the unit needs to be read or programmed
ithin 15 seconds or it ill go into sleep mode.
With the radio programming cable connected (KPG-36 or KPG-46) to the radio, press and hold the > button
(Right/Home button) hile turning po er on to the radio. The radio’s LCD ill display “OPT Board Prog”. Select
ProgramUnit or ReadUnit in the MPS soft are.

6
Store on COR/Store on VOX: Select the appropriate method that the unit should use to start recording incoming
audio.
COR Hold-Up Time This sets the amount of times after a loss of COR or VOX that the unit ill ait until it
retransmits the recorded audio.
VOX Settings > Sensitivity: This is a threshold detection based on the energy level in the audio.
VOX Settings > Attack Time: This sets the minimum time before the unit ill detect VOX based on the sensitivity
setting.
VOX Settings > Decay Time: This sets the time before the unit ill drop the VOX detection. Be certain to set this
long enough so that you do not have drop outs bet een ords or on brief pauses.
Beep Options > Power Up: Enables a short beep sequence that takes place immediately after po er-up.
Beep Options > Error: This beep may be triggered by any input event if programmed to do so. For example, if a
long press on the Mode Input is not assigned to a function, it may be configured to generate the error beep.
Beep Options > Mode: Not used as the radio offers its o n mode tones for the option board enable.
Beep Options > Go Ahead: Not currently used.
Beep Options > Wake Up Beep: Enables a short beep to be sent over the air immediately after PTT is pressed.
Enabling this beep is recommended hen the 'Wake on VOX' feature is used. This may also be used to get the
attention of the party receiving a call.
Beep Options > Courtesy Beep: If selected, once the unit is done retransmitting the recorded audio it ill
generate a courtesy tone to let others kno it is done retransmitting.
Program Through Radio Enable: This box must be checked for programming through the radio.
Voice Compression: If left unchecked the PR-10 can store up to a 3-minute voice message. If checked the PR-
10 can store up to a 2.25 minute voice message, but ith a higher level of audio quality.

7
Power Up In Store/Retransmit Mode: If selected the unit ill po er up in repeat mode. This box must be
selected if doing repeat enable on a per-channel basis.
Key-Up Delay: This sets the amount of time the unit aits after keying the base station radio before it starts to
retransmit the recorded audio.
Trunking Delay Enable: Check this box if using a trunking system. This ill cause the unit to hold off
regenerating the recorded audio until it has received a channel acquisition ackno ledgement from the base
station radio.
Common PTT: Check this box.
PTT Cancels Store/Retransmit: If checked and the PTT is pressed during store/retransmit the unit ill not
retransmit the incoming transmission.
Number of Retransmits: This sets ho many times the unit ill retransmit the last recorded audio clip.
Retransmit Interval: This sets the time interval bet een the retransmits set in the Number of Retransmits field.

8
PTT > Active Polarity: This sets hether the unit looks for an active lo or active high to cancel a
store/retransmit.
PTT > Debounce: If checked the unit ill require a continuous active state for 30 msec before accepting the PTT.
Mode > Type: Select hether the s itch is Momentary or Latched. In this case it should be Latched.
Mode > Active Polarity: Select the active polarity of the mode s itch. In this case it should be Lo .
Mode > Debounce: If checked the unit ill require a continuous active state for 30 msec before accepting the
mode change.
The remaining fields set ho the s itch is used (short press, long press or double press) and for hich function
(record start or stop, playback start or stop, etc.).

9
COR > Active Polarity: This sets hether the unit looks for an active lo or active high to start recording the
received audio. The COR Polarity should be set to lo for these radios.
COR > Debounce: If checked the unit ill require a continuous active state for 30 msec before accepting the
COR.
PTT > Active Polarity: This sets the polarity necessary for the unit’s PTT output to key the radio.
Audio Enable > Active Polarity: This sets the polarity necessary for the unit to enable the speaker of the radio to
pass beeps.

10
AuX Inputs: Not used on this model.
