I woul personally like to congratulate you on your

purchase of the Marshall Class5 amplifier.

One of my gol en rules has been, an always will be,

to listen to what guitarists want from their amplifiers.

When the company starte receiving numerous

requests to pro uce an amplifier containing all the

harmonics, feel an tone of a classic Marshall stack, but

at a fraction of the size an volume, I set my

experience R&D team the challenge.

In response, they have create the Class5, a single

channel, 5 Watt, all-valve hea brimming with classic

Marshall tone. I was amaze when I hear what this

small amp coul o, it really oes punch way above its

weight an contains everything from bright cleans to

classic crunch tones.

The high quality construction is something I’m

particularly prou of too. Every Class5 amplifier is

create from specially source components an

materials by our highly skille an e icate shopfloor

staff at our factory in the heart of the UK. Their attention

to etail an unwavering stan ar s mean your new

amplifier will truly stan the test of time.

I woul like to take this opportunity to wish you every

success with your new Marshall Class5 amplifier.

Yours Sincerely,

Dr Jim Marshall OBE

The Class5H is a 5 Watt, all-valve, Class A

amplifier in a hea format.

This little amplifier has been manufacture in

response to a very common request we have

receive over the years, a request which

nearly always contains the phrase “Can we

have the Marshall Stack soun , but at a much

lower volume”. So here it is, a ‘baby Plexi’ if

you like!

Incorporating a very simple layout of Volume,

Treble, Mi le an Bass, it is esigne to

eliver those great cranke tones with

minimum fuss an environmental abuse. The

Class5H is a must for recor ing an is i eal for

rehearsals an smaller gigs. A hea phone

output is also inclu e for private practice.

Two ECC83 (12AX7) ouble trio e pre-amp

valves an a single EL84 pento e power amp

valve ensure that the signal path is pure Class

A valve tone from beginning to en .

‘Class A’ topologies are known for their

generous secon harmonic istortion

characteristic, which is very pleasant to the ear

an results in some classic over rive tonality.

Cranking the amp up to it’s full ‘ eceivingly

respectable’ output will yiel some re hot

Marshall roar which can be riven into either

8Ωor 16Ωextension cabinets.

Before powering-up your Marshall Class5

amplifier, you must ensure that an appropriate

speaker cabinet is connecte to the

correspon ing impe ance matche

lou speaker jack on the rear panel, (unless

‘hea phone’ mo e is selecte ). Failure to o

so coul result in serious amage being

cause to your amplifier. Always use an

unshiel e lou speaker cable to connect an

amplifier to a lou speaker cabinet, never use a

screene (shiel e ) guitar cable. After use,

always allow the amp to cool own before

moving.

IIMMPPOORRTTAANNTT NNOOTTEE::

Please refer to the ‘Warning’ plate on

un ersi e of the pro uct.

11.. PPoowweerr SSwwiittcchh

This is the On/Off switch for the mains electric

power to the amplifier.

NNOOTTEE::Please ensure the amplifier is switche

off an unplugge from the mains electricity

supply whenever it is move !

22.. MMaaiinnss IInniiccaattoorr

This re in icator will light up whenever the

amp is plugge into the mains an the Power

Switch (1) is on.

NNOOTTEE::Please allow a minute or so for the

amp to ‘warm-up’ after switching on. This is

normal with valve amplifiers as valves nee to

reach their ‘working temperature’ to operate

properly.

33.. BBaassss

This controls the amount of low frequencies

(bottom-en ) in your tone.

44.. MMiillee

This controls the mi -range of your soun .

Turning this up will make your guitar soun

fatter an fuller.

55.. TTrreebbllee

This control etermines the amount of high

frequency (top-en ) that is present an gives

your guitar tone a efining e ge as it is turne

up.

66.. VVoolluummee

This control sets the overall output volume of

the amplifier.

TTOONNAALL TTIIPP::It is practical to set this first to suit

the environment in which you are playing, as

the position of this volume largely ictates the

optimum positions for the other controls.

77.. IInnppuutt JJaacckk SSoocckkeett

This is where you plug your guitar into the

amp. You must use a screene (shiel e )

guitar cable. Never use an unscreene

(unshiel e ) speaker cable. The input to any

guitar amplifier is a very sensitive part of the

signal path an is very sensitive to electrical

interference, hence the nee for a screene

guitar cable. Your screene cable shoul be of

goo quality. If you are in any oubt regar ing

this, your Marshall ealer will be more than

happy to help an a vise you.

WWAARRNNIINNGG::Although your Class5 amplifier

has 2 extension speaker outputs (an a

hea phone socket), never attempt to connect

cabinets to both extension speaker outputs

simultaneously. Only use one speaker output

at a time, the recommen ations are: 1x8 Ohm

or 1x16 Ohm or hea phones. Combining

these options may stress the power amplifier

section an , in extreme cases, may lea to

valve an /or output transformer failure.

11.. EExxtteennssiioonn SSppeeaakkeerr 88Ω

This is the output that connects to an 8Ω

extension cabinet.

22.. EExxtteennssiioonn SSppeeaakkeerr 1166Ω

extension cabinet.

33.. HHeeaapphhoonneess//EExxtteennssiioonn SSppeeaakkeerr

SSeelleeccttoorr SSwwiittcchh

This switch routes the 16Ωoutput signal to its

e icate speaker output (2) or the

hea phone output (4). When this switch is set

to ‘Hea phones’ this is the only time it is

acceptable not to have an extension speaker

cabinet connecte .

44.. HHeeaapphhoonneess OOuuttppuutt

This is the output that connects to a stan ar

set of hea phones.

TTEECCHH NNOOTTEE::The signal here is erive from

the speaker output with a e filtering in

or er to inclu e the power amp an output

transformer’s contribution to the overall tone.

An internal 16Ωummy loa helps maintain

the correct ‘reflecte ’ impe ance for the power

amplifier.

55.. MMaaiinnss IInnppuutt

Your amplifier is provi e with a etachable

mains (power) lea , which is connecte here.

The specific mains input voltage rating that

your amplifier has been built for is in icate

on the back panel. Before connecting for the

first time, please ensure that your amplifier is

compatible with your electricity supply. If you

have any oubt, please ask the a vice of a

qualifie technician. Your Marshall ealer will

help you in this respect.

The correct value of mains fuse locate in the

small rawer at the bottom of the mains socket

is specifie on the rear panel of the amplifier.

The rawer contains a space for a spare fuse.

NEVER attempt to bypass the fuse or fit one of

the incorrect value!

NNOOTTEE: It is wise to carry spare fuses at all

times.
