dinosaur game setting. Moves are determined by t e toss of number
cubes, or t e drawing of action number cards or problem solving cards.
Wit a focus on place value and problem solving strategies, Dino Mat
Tracks reinforces goals set fort by t e National Council of Teac ers of
Mat ematics.
Colorful and appealing, Dino Math Tracks features t ree separate sets of
playing rules and game variations to meet t e needs and interests of
a broad range of c ildren from grades 1 t roug 4. As c ildren move

Eac player c ooses one type of dinosaur (e.g., stegosaurus) and
places one of eac color in t e appropriate lane by t e start sign
on t e game board.
Pla ing the Game
1. Players eac roll t e green number cube. T e player w o
rolled t e largest number starts t e game.
2. T e first player rolls all four w ite number cubes and arranges
t em on t e color-coded place value box to make four-digit
number. T e digits, 1, 2, 3, and 4 can be arranged in 24
different ways! A few examples are s own below.

number of yellow spaces indicated by t e ones digit, t e
orange dinosaur moves t e number of orange spaces indicated
by t e tens digit, and so on, until all four dinosaurs ave been
moved.
Note: You may wis to ave c ildren count t eir moves aloud
to make t e connection between t e numbers and t eir place
values. For example, for a number suc as 1,234, t e player
can count t e move as follows: One thousand; one, two
hundreds; one, two, three tens; and one, two, three, four ones.

Game Variations
♦For younger c ildren, you may want to play wit just one
or two number cubes. For t e simplest one-cube game, use
yellow dinosaurs and travel along t e yellow “ones” track.
For a two-dinosaur game, use yellow and orange
dinosaurs, arrange two-digit numbers in t e yellow and
orange boxes and travel only t ose tracks. Later, you can
add purple dinosaurs for work wit t ree-digit numbers.
♦For added c allenge, require all players to make t e largest
or smallest numbers t ey can wit t eir number cubes.
