This document contains detailed information about the KMS EGT CAN 4-
channel kit. Additional information, user manuals, wiring examples ands

About the kit
The KMS EGTCAN converter 4-channel enables users to measure and monitor tem-
perature using four K-type thermocouple sensors. As the KMS EGT to CAN converter
is not equipped with a display (unlike the KMS EGT display kit), monitoring the 4-
channel inputs can be done on the KMS CAN display, KMS motormanagement soft-
ware or data logging.
The KMS EGT 4-channel CAN module has a temperature range from 0 to 1200 ºC
with an accuracy of ±1%. This means that it’s also possible to use the thermocouple
sensors for measuring other temperatures beside EGT, for example for oil-, air-,
brake- or watertemperature.

Installation of the EGT CAN converter 4-channel
The KMS EGTCAN converter 4-channel is splash waterproof. However it’s best to
place it in a dry place where temperatures don’t exceed 65°C.
Warning: don’t place the EGT CAN module and wires near any ‘high powered’ ca-
bles (sparkplug leads, etc), because of electrical interference.

There are four green thermocouple connectors and one black CAN-bus connector
coming out on both sides of the EGT CAN converter 4-channel. The connection
of these wires and connecters is as follows:
• Male black 4-pole connector (binder type): Communication to CAN
bus
• Female Green 2-pole connector (K-type): Connection to K-type ther-
mocouple
• Green PTFE cable: Consists of two wires:
• Green wire: + signal from K-type thermocouple
• White wire: - signal from K-type thermocouple
Input numbers are indicated on the EGT CAN converter housing for each thermo-
couple cable.

After installing/wiring the EGT CAN converter 4-channel, the KMS management
software must be set up correctly. Refer to the instructions below and in the man-
agement software manual for more information.
The KMS ECU and Motormanagement software use thermocouple input 1 as the first
EGT for all corrections (boost, fuel and aux) in the software. Thermocouple input 2
and higher are used as the 2nd and higher EGT’s for the aux output functions. When
both an KMS EGT CAN converter and KMS EGT display are connected to the KMS
ECU, the KMS EGT CAN converter will be used for the EGT input corrections in
the Motormanagement software.
In case of a broken or disconnected sensor (broken wire), this is regarded as a fault
by the ECU and the function is skipped and automatically switched off.

Over de kit
De KMS UGTCAN omvormer 4—kanaals stelt gebruikers in staat om uit-
laatgastemperaturen te meten en monitoren met behulp van vier K-type thermokop-
pels. Omdat de KMS naar CAN omvormer niet uitgerust is met een display (zoals de
UGT Display kit), kunnen de 4 inputs worden weergegeven in het KMS Can display,
de KMS motormanagement software of in de data logger.
De KMS UGT 4-kanaals CAN module heeft een temperatuursbereik van 0 tot 1200 ºC
met een nauwkeurigheid van ±1%. Dit betekent dat het ook mogelijk is om de ther-
mokoppel sensors te gebruiken voor het meten van bijvoorbeeld olie-, lucht-, rem-
, of watertemperatuur.

De KMS UGTCAN omvormer 4-kanaals is spatwaterbestendig. Het is echter het
beste om de omvormer op een droge plaats te monteren waar de temperaturen niet
boven de 65 °C komen.
Let op: Plaats de UGTCAN omvormer en kabels uit de buurt van ‘high powered’
kabels (bougiekabels, etc) om storingen te voorkomen.

Er komen vier groene thermokoppel en één zwarte CAN-bus stekker uit beide zijden
van de UGT CAN omvormer 4-kanaals. De aansluiting van deze stekkers is als
volgt:
• Mannelijke zwarte 4-polige stekker (binder type): Communicatie naar
de CANbus
• Vrouwelijke groene 2-polige stekker (K-type): Aansluiting voor K-type
thermokoppels
• Groene PTFE kabel: Bestaat uit twee draden:
• Groene draad: + signaal van K-type thermokoppel
• Witte draad: - signaal van K-type thermokoppel
Input nummers staan aangegeven op de behuizing van de UGT CAN omvormer.

Na het installeren van de UGT CAN omvormer 4-kanaals moet de KMS motorma-
nagement software correct worden ingesteld. Zie onderstaande instructies en de
motormanagement software handleiding voor meer informatie.
De KMS ECU en Motormanagement software gebruiken thermokoppel ingang num-
mer 1 als de UGT voor alle correcties (boost, brandstof en aux) in de software.
Thermokoppel ingang 2 en hoger worden gebruikt als de 2een hogere UGT’s voor de
aux uitgang functies. Wanneer een KMS UGT CAN omvormer en KMS UGT display
tegelijk worden aangesloten gebruikt de software altijd de UGT ingangen van de
UGT CAN omvormer voor alle correcties.
Wanneer een sensor gebroken of niet aangesloten is, wordt dit door de software
gezien als fout en worden de functies hiermee gerelateerd overgeslagen.
