TheBatteryGuard®1000wasdesignedtomakeinstallationsimple.Withitsuniqueallinonedesign,Intellitecbrought
theelectronicstothesource,eliminatingadditionalwiringandsimplifyingtheinstallationprocess.TheBatteryGuard®
1000hasamountingplatedattachedwithtwomountingholeslocatedinthebackandusesautomotivestandard
connectorsforperipheralconnections.
TheseinstructionscontainalltheinformationneededtohelpyouinstalltheBatteryDisconnect.Itisassumedthe
installerhasbasicskillsinelectricalwiring,mechanics,andcarpentry.Ifyouhaveanydoubtsaboutthesetechniquesor
instructionsconsultwithsomeoneBEFOREyouconnectawireorcutahole.
WireDiagram1illustratestheprimaryconnectionsoftheBatteryGuard®1000.5/16”boltsareusedforthebattery
supplyandPrimaryLoadconnectionsandarecapableofsupporting100Aofcurrent.TheAuxiliaryLoadusesamale¼”
quickconnectandcansupplyupto2AofcurrenttotheAuxiliaryLoad.

LocatingtheBatteryGuard®1000Switch:
TheBatteryGuard®1000offersadirectswitchinputsignalthatallowstheusertotoggletheprimarydisconnectstate.
ThiscanbecomeveryusefuliftheRV‐Cnetworkweretoevergodownoriftheuserdoesnothaveaccesstotheother
controlmethods.Theswitchshouldbereadilyaccessiblebytheuser.Thisswitchnotonlycontrolsthestateofthe
batterydisconnectbutalsoprovidesindicationofthedisconnectstateandwhetherfaultshaveoccurred.Ensurethe
wallusedformountingtheswitchhasenoughclearancebehindittoallowcablesaccess.Typically,¾”to1”isrequired.

InstallingtheBatteryGuard®1000:
WARNING:Beforeproceeding,disconnectallsourcesofpower.Unplugtheshorepowercableandturnoffthegenerator.
Disconnectthebattery(s)negative(‐)terminal.
TheBatteryGuard®1000controlsarelaythatactsaselectro‐mechanicalswitchthatdisconnectsthebattery.Itshould
belocatednearthebatteryforwiringsimplicity.Wheninstalled,therelaywillbeinserted"in‐line"withthecable
comingfromthepositive(+)terminalofthebattery.Keepthisinmindwhenchoosingtheinstallationlocation.
WARNING:Topreventunwantedisolationwhenignitionsignalispresent,theBatteryGuard®1000looksattheRV‐C
networktodetermineitsignitioninhibitstate.Ensurethenetworkintegrationsupportsthe“ignitionswitchstatus”if
attachingoperationsafetycriticaldevices.Ifnot,itisrecommendedthatsafetycriticaldevicesbeonaseparatebranch
fromtheBatteryGuard®1000.

Whileholdingtherelayinplacenearthechassisbattery,markthelocationofthetwoholesfortherelaymountingbolts.
Settherelayaside,anddrilltwomountingholes.Beforeboltingtherelayinplace,routetheControlCablenearthe
mountingplace.Wheninstallinginanenginecompartment,besuretoprovidesufficientspaceforairflowtoallowfor
cooling.
ConnectingtheCables:
WARNING–Whenconnectingthebatterypositiveandprimaryloadwires,youmustusetwowrenchestotightenthe
nutsonthestud,onetoturntheoutsidenutandonetoholdthenutontheinsidefromturning.Thecopperstudmust
notturn,orrelayoperationmaybeaffected.
Locatethepositivebatterycableforthechassisbattery.Carefullycutthecableneartherelay.Stripthecableinsulation
backabout1/2"oneachendandcrimponthebatterycableterminalsdefinedintheApplicationConnectionstable.
Removekepsnutsfrombothcopperstudsandconnecttheterminalstothecopperstudsontherelay.It’simportant
thatthe“batteryfeed”and“primaryload”cablesgoestothestudsdefinedinWireDiagram1and2.
IfusingtheprovidedBatteryGuard®1000SwitchHarness,followWireDiagram2formatchingthewireharnesscolors
totheconnectors.
TheBatteryGuard®1000has2RV‐Cports.Oneoftheseportsprovidesconstantpowerwhiletheotherprovidesa
switchedpower.Theswitchpowerfollowsthestateoftheprimarydisconnect.Thisfeatureoffersamoreadvanced
networkmanagementoption.RefertoWiringDiagram2toensureproperconnectionoftheRV‐Cnetwork.
TheAuxiliaryoutputisa2ampovercurrentprotectedoutputthatisolatesatanindependentlowvoltagethreshold
fromtheprimarydisconnect.Thiscanbeusedtomaintainpoweroncriticaldevicesordevicesrequiredtobringthe
RV‐Cnetworkandloadsbackup.
Afterallwireshavebeenconnectedandtightenedproperly,reconnectthebatteriesnegativecable.
VerifyingOperation:
ToverifytheBatteryGuard®1000ispoweredup,checkforthegreenLEDheartbeatonthedevice.Thiswillilluminate
rightabovethecompanylogo.
IfusingtheprovidedswitchwiththeIntelliteckit10‐01130‐000togglethestateofthedisconnect.IftheLEDringonthe
switchisilluminatedthenthebatterydisconnectisclosed,iftheLEDringontheswitchisnotilluminatedthenthe
disconnectisopen.
WhenusingthisdeviceinanRV‐CnetworkusetheDCDISCONNECTDGNtochangethestateofthedisconnect.Referto
the53‐01130‐300‐IntegratorsGuideforspecificinformationregardingstatusandcontroloftheBatteryGuard®1000.
Note:besurewhenusingtheRV‐Ccommandthatthedeviceyouaresendingthemessagewithisnotconnectedtothe
disconnectorauxiliarywhentestingthisfunctionorthedevicewillturnoff.
