combinationfuelsingleburnerapplications.The

BCS 7700 consists of a Chassis Module, Pro-

gram Module, Keyboard and Display Module,

Flame Amplifier, Solid State Sensors (Fuel Oil

and Water Temperature, Steam Pressure, Gas

Pressure, and Oil Pressure) and a Firing Rate

Motor. The BCS 7700 provides levels of safety,

functional capability and features beyond the

capacity of conventional controls. Functions of

theBCS7700includeautomaticburnersequenc-

ing, flame supervision, system status indication

and system diagnostics.

The Keyboard and Display Module is the pri-

mary user interface to the BCS 7700. The Key-

board and Display Module is used to configure

the system modules, adjust system operating pa-

rameters, and monitor system status.

WHEN INSTALLING THIS PRODUCT…

1. Read these instructions carefully. Failure to follow

them could damage the product.

2. Refer to Fig. 2 and 3 for proper system wiring.

3. Installer must be a trained, experienced flame safe-

guard technician.

4. Afterinstallation,check out the product per instruc-

tions in this specification sheet.

IMPORTANT: This equipment generates, uses and can

radiate radio frequency energy. If not installed and

used in accordance with the instructions, it may

cause interference to radio communications. It has

beentestedand found to comply with the limits fora

Class A computing device (part 15 of FCC rules)

which are designed to provide reasonable protec-

tion against such interference when operated in a

commercial environment. Operation of this equip-

mentinaresidentialareamaycauseinterference;in

which case, users at their own expense may be

required to take whatever measures are required to

correct this interference.

HUMIDITY

Install the Keyboard and Display Module where the

relative humidity never reaches the saturation point. The

Keyboard and Display Module is designed to operate in a

maximum 85% RH continuous, noncondensing moisture

environment. Condensing moisture may cause improper

Keyboard and Display Module operation.

VIBRATION

DonotinstalltheKeyboardandDisplayModulewhere

itcouldbe subjected to excessive vibration,0.5Gcontinu-

ous maximum.

WEATHER

The Keyboard and Display Module is not designed to

be weather tight; if it is installed outdoors, it must be

protected.

MOUNTING THE KEYBOARD AND DISPLAY

MODULE

NOTE: For installation dimensions, see Fig. 1.

1. The Keyboard and Display Module can be mounted

on the door panel of an electrical enclosure.

2. Select the location on the door panel; be aware that

the Keyboard and Display Module extends 1.4 inches

behind its mounting surface.

3. Using the Keyboard and Display Module as a tem-

plate, mark the four screw locations. Drill the pilot holes.

Provideforanopeningonthepaneldoorformounting,see

Fig. 1.

4. Secure the Keyboard and Display Module to the

panel with four no. 6 screws.

Installation

WIRING

1. Refer to Fig. 2 and 3 for proper wiring.

2. Remove line voltage from the control panel by

opening the main disconnect, more than one disconnect

may be involved.

3. All wiring must comply with all applicable electri-

cal codes, ordinances, and regulations.

4. Recommended wire size and type:

a. MaketheKeyboardandDisplayModuleRS-485

ControlBus connections with Belden 8723 cable

or equivalent. The shield is connected to ground

at both ends.

b. Therecommendedwiresizeforthe24Vacpower

input is AWG No.18 wire insulated for voltages

andtemperatures encountered in the application.

Suggested types include TW (60C), THW (75C)

and THHN (90C).

5. Recommendedgroundingpractices—TheKeyboard

and Display Module can be connected to any convenient

earthground.TheControlBusshieldisconnectedtoground

at both ends.

6. Recommended wire routing:

a. Do not route the ControlBus shielded cable in

conduits that carry line voltage circuits.

b. Avoid routing the ControlBus shielded cable

close to the ignition transformer leadwires.

c. Route the ControlBus shielded cable outside of

conduitifproperlysupportedand protected from

damage.

7. The ControlBus requires a termination resistor on

the module farthest from the Chassis Module. This is

accomplished by connecting a 120 Ω1/4 watt resistor

across a and b terminals of the ControlBus connector on

ST7700

the module farthest from the Chassis Module.

8. The ControlBus cable shield must be connected to

ground at the Keyboard Display and at the Chassis Mod-

ule. Failure to terminate the shield may result in improper

ControlBus operation.

9. Maximumwirelengths—ThemaximumControlBus

leadwire length, under ideal conditions, is 1000 feet.

10. Restore power to the panel.

ST7700 Keyboard functions—The keyboard contains

11 key pads and each has a separate function:

1. Cursor keys [Λ/v]—The Λ/v cursor keys are used to

scroll through available parameters. The Λ/v key can be

pressed to list the parameters one at a time or the Λ/v key

canbehelddownconstantlyandtheparameters willscroll

through at a rate of one per second.

3. Modekey—TheModekeyisusedtotoggletheBCS

7700between theOperateand ProgramModes,see Fig.7.

a. Switching to Program Mode from Operate

Mode—IfintheOperatemode,withtheburnerin

StandbyoriftheBCS7700isinsafetyshutdown,

the Mode key can be pressed to place the system

in the Program mode. The Program mode cannot

be entered when the burner sequence has begun.

Program mode can be entered ONLY in Standby

or if the BCS 7700 is locked out.

b. Switching to Operate Mode from Program

Mode—If in the Program mode, the Mode key

can be pressed to place the system in the Operate

mode.TheENTERkeyshouldbepressedpriorto

switching to the Operate mode to assure the

displayed parameter value is stored in the BCS

7700 microcomputer memory.

4. AUTO/MANUALkey—TheAUTO/MANUALkey

places the BCS 7700 in an automatic [AUTO] sequence

operation or a manual (MANUAL) sequence operation.

The AUTO/MANUAL key function has control of the

BCS 7700 only when in the Operate mode. When in the

Program mode, the AUTO/MANUAL key has no func-

tion.

• AUTO (automatic) control allows the BCS 7700 to

sequence the burner based on safety sequence logic

and rate control of the BCS 7700. The system starts

and stops the burner automatically, see Fig. 8.

• MANUAL (manual) control allows manual adjust-

ment of the firing rate motor position. The cursor

must be placed beneath % Rate to allow manual

adjustment of firing rate using the [+] or [-] keys.

The BCS 7700 assures system safety, but firing rate

control is removed from the BCS 7700 rate control

and manual firing rate takes control, see Fig. 8.

2. Cursor keys [</>]—The </> keys move the cursor

around the ST7700 LCD fields. The cursor is the one

segment wide flashing horizontal line in the LCD.

5. ENTER key—The ENTER key is used to store a

parametervalueintheBCS7700microcomputermemory.

IftheENTERkeyisnotpressed,the new value will not be

stored, and the previous value will remain in memory, see

Fig. 9.

6. CLEAR key—The CLEAR key is used to clear a

fault message from the display (the BCS 7700 must

continue to be manually reset for automatic operation),

move the parameter display to the home position of the

parameter list, return the display to the previously dis-

played parameter, silence the alarm, or clear out a param-

eter value entry, see Fig. 10.

7. +, FAST, - keys—The +, FAST, - keys are used to

adjust the value of a displayed parameter. The FAST key

can be pressed with the + or - key to increase or decrease

the value at a greater rate, see Fig. 11.
