The

PJV11BK

relay

operated

single

unit

instantaneous

undervoltage

device.

intended

for

application

D.C.

systems to

detect short

circuits

that

reduce the system

voltage

below

the

drop

out

setting

the

relay.

The

PJV11BK

relay

comes

SI-E

non-drawout

case.

However,

the

standard

plug

available

which

permits

disconnection

the

contact

circuits

from

the

front

CHARACTERISTICS

OPERATING

PRINCIPLES

These

plunger

relays

operate

the

principle

electromagnetic

attraction.

The

contacts

are

opened

closed

armature

which

drawn

vertically

into

solenoid.

external

resistor

is included

relays

connected

series

with the

operating

coil.

This

external

resistor

has

resistance

that

much

higher

than

that

the

operating

coil.

This

type

circuit

prevents

self

heating

and

variations

ambient

temperature

from

having

appreciable

effect

relay operating voltage.

high

resistor

value

makes

changes

operating

coil

resistance

with

temperature

insignificant

terms

the

total

circuit

resistance.

PICKUP

AND

DROPOUT

DEFINITIONS

Pickup

voltage

defined

voltage

the normally

open

contacts

voltage

relay.

voltage

RELAY

CALIBRATION

These

relays

are

calibrated

the

factory

for

dropout

volts.

Table

shows

the

calibrating

ranges

for

the

various

operating

coil

—

external

resistor

combinations

used

these

relays.

Dropout

relays

are

properly

adjusted,

they

will

dropout

one

smooth

motion

the

reset position.

That

is,

with

applied

voltage gradually

reduced,

the

relay

will

reset

within

two

percent

of the

voltage

which

the

normally

open

contacts

open.

PICKUP

VOLTAGE

Dropout

voltage

and

pickup

voltage

are

not

independently

adjustable.

The

relays will

pickup

percentage

of dropout

voltage

that

function

of the

dropout

voltage

setting.

For

D.C.

operated

relays

wEth

two

normally

open

one

normally

open

and one

normally

closed

contact,

pickup

will

occur

some

voltage

which

less

than

145

percent

set

dropout

voltage.

CONSTRUCTION

PLUNGER

UNIT

All

of the

PJV

relays

are

the

same

plunger

type

construction.

(Refer

Fig.

6).

The

adjustable

armature

mounted

the

threaded

portion

plunger

rod

which

carries

the

moving

contacts

upward

the armature

operated.

The

armature

drawn

upward

into

the

coil

the

flux

created

the

rectangular

magnet

frame

and

cylindrical

pole

piece

inside

the

coil.

Guides

for

the

plunger

rod

are

provided

the

top

hole

the

pole

piece,

and

the

bottom

the

fit

the

molded

contact

carrier

inside

the

calibration

tube.

Openings

sides

calibration

tube

allow

access

the

armature

pickup.

The

normally

closed

fixed

contacts

are

similar

the

normally

open

fixed

contacts

except

they

are

mounted below

moving

contact

CASE

The

case

for

the

PJV11BK

relay

has

two

special

high

voltage

studs

which

connect

directly

the

operating

coil.

These

insulated

studs

pass

directly

through

the

rear

the

case.

The

relay

cannot

drawn

out

its

case

without

removing

the connections

and

dis—assembling

these

high

voltage

studs.

The

contact

circuits

the

relay

are

brought

out

through

the

standard

case

studs

labeled

one

through

ten

the

internal

connections

and

the

outline

diagram.

cradle

mounted

relay

unit

are

made

The

relay

mechanism

mounted

steel

framework

the

cradle

and

cradle

case

latch at

the

top

and

the

bottom

and

guide

The

cases

and

cradles

are

constructed

that

the

relay

cannot

inserted

case

upside

down.

connecting

plug,

besides

making

the

electrical

connections

between

the

respective

blocks

of the

cradle

and

case,

also

locks

the

latch

place.

The

cover,

which

fastened

the case

thumbscrews,

holds

the

connecting

plug

place.

contacts

and

have

not

been

deformed.
