Installing SFP transceivers
If not already installed, install the SFP transceivers that will be used to
connect your appliance to the network.
Caution: Do not install or remove SFP transceivers while fiber optic cables
are attached. This can damage the cables, cable connectors, and optical
interfaces. It may also prevent the transceiver from latching correctly into
the socket.
Note: Installing and removing SFP transceivers can shorten their life. Do
not install or remove transceivers more than is necessary.

SFP Cage Sockets
To install SFP transceivers
1. On the appliance’s front panel, remove the caps from SFP cage sockets.
2. Position the SFP transceiver in front of the cage socket so that the
extraction lever is level with the socket latch.
Note: SFP cage socket orientation may vary. Verify that the SFP
transceiver module is correctly oriented.
3. Holding the sides of the SFP transceiver, gently slide it into the cage
socket.
Caution: Do not force SFP transceivers into cage slots. Force can cause
damage. If the transceiver does not easily slide in and click into place,
it may not be aligned correctly or may be upside down. If this happens,
remove the SFP transceiver, realign or rotate it, and try again.

4. Press the transceiver firmly into the cage socket with your thumb until it
clicks, indicating that it is latched.
5. Verify that the transceiver is latched: grasp the sides and trying to pull it
out without lowering the extraction lever.
If you can remove the transceiver, it was not latched correctly, and could
become accidentally dislodged. Try again.
To remove SFP transceivers
1. Disconnect the fiber optic cable from the transceiver connector.
2. To prevent dust from entering the optical bores, insert clean plugs.
3. To eject the transceiver, pull the extraction lever out and down.
Tip: Instead of using your finger, try a small flat-head screwdriver.
4. Hold the sides of the transceiver and carefully pull it from the cage socket.
5. Replace the cap on the SFP cage socket.
6. Put the removed SFP transceiver into an anti-static bag.

Connecting to FortiDB
FortiDB appliances should be installed in a restricted access location
such as a locked data center to ensure their physical security, which is
fundamental to your network security. Either place the FortiDB appliance
on a flat surface, or mount it in any standard 19 inch (48.3cm) rack
with the rack-mount brackets. In a rack, a FortiDB 3000D occupies 2U
(3.5inches/8.9 cm). If the appliance has a redundant power supply, each
power cable should be connected to a different power source.
You can configure FortiDB for your network through a connection to
eitherits web UI or command line interface (CLI).
Connect FortiDB only to your computer until you finish setup. (If you place
FortiDB in your network before FortiDB is set up, device IPs could conflict.)

To connect to the web UI
Requires: Microsoft Internet Explorer 8, Mozilla Firefox 20, Apple Safari 6,
or Google Chrome 20 or newer
1. Using the Ethernet cable, connect port1 of the appliance to your computer.
2. Configure your computer to match the appliance’s default port1 subnet.
For example, on Windows 7, click the Start (Windows logo) menu to
open it, then click Control Panel. Click Network and Sharing Center,
Local Area Connection, and then the Properties button. Select
Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) then click its Properties button.
Select Use the following IP address, then change your computer’s
settings to:
• IP address: 192.168.1.2
• Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
3. To connect to FortiDB’s web UI, start a web browser and go to
https://192.168.1.99 . (Remember to include the “s” in https://.)
4. Type admin in the User Name field, type fortidb1!$ in the Password
field blank, then click Login.
To connect to the CLI via serial console
Requires: Terminal emulator such as PuTTY, TeraTerm, or a terminal server
1. Using the console cable, connect the appliance’s console port to your
terminal server or computer.
2. On your computer or terminal server, start the terminal emulator.
Usethesesettings:
• Baud rate: 9600
• Data bits: 8
• Parity: None
• Stop bits: 1
• Flow control: None
3. Press Enter on your keyboard to connect to the CLI.

Shutting down
Always properly shut down the FortiDB
appliance’s operating system before turning off
the power switch or unplugging the appliance.
This causes it to finish writing buffered data, and
to slow and park the harddisks.
Do not unplug or switch off the FortiDB
appliance before halting the operating
system. Failure to shut down correctly could
cause dataloss and hardware problems.
To power off the appliance via the CLI
1. Connect to the CLI using a terminal emulator.
2. Enter the following command:
execute shutdown
You may be able to hear the appliance become more quiet when the
appliance stops its hardware and operating system, indicating that it is
ready for power to be disconnected.
3. Disconnect the power cable from the power supply.
