Introduction
WeR@Home™ Smart Extender 3
1. Introduction
The WeR@Home™Smart Extender extends the range of your WeR@Home™ hub, to help you maximize
the coverage of your home by WeR@Home™. The extender allows you to connect devices to
WeR@Home™ which could not otherwise connect to the hub. The extender manages the peripheral
devices connected to it, acts as a gateway to the Essence Cloud, and communicates with the Essence
servers which provide data to the app.
For example, here is a WeR@Home™ setup.
Assume that the hub has difficulty communicating with the indicated device, or that the connection
between that device and the hub intermittently fails.

Introduction
4 WeR@Home™ Smart Extender
Installing an extender, and connecting the device to the extender instead of the hub, as shown in the
next image, allows the device to function fully as a part of WeR@Home™.
The device uses the extender to connect to WeR@Home™in the cloud. WeR@Home™ treats the device
as a part of the system, and sends commands to it and receives reports from it as if it were connected
to the hub.
NOTE: Some features described in this guide may be disabled depending on
your service level. For information about different service levels, or to change
your service level, contact your service provider.

Using an Extender

5. Using an Extender
The information in this chapter is not required to operate the extender. It is provided to help
understand how the extender works as part of WeR@Home™
Once installed, an extender and its connected devices work automatically as part of your
WeR@Home™.
An extender inherits its hub’s settings, configurations, and associated users.
For example, an extender uses the same time zone and arming delay setting as its hub.
Each change in a hub’s configuration is automatically applied to all the hub's extenders.
All devices connected to an extender display in the app in the same way and place as devices
connected to the hub.
All events reported by devices connected to an extender display in the app in the same way
and place as devices connected to the hub.
A key fob works only with the extender or hub it is paired with.
A detection by a device connected to an extender has the same effect as a detection by a
device connected to the hub.
Each command:
To the hub, is duplicated on the extender.
To the extender, is duplicated on the hub.
Each notification from the hub or the extender goes to your WeR@Home™.
You cannot use an extender as a hub. Neither can you use a hub as an extender.
