1INTRODUCTION

1.1 SAFETY INFORMATION

Always read and take note of the provisions in

Section 5 Safety before using the passive

cooling unit (PCU) and its peripheral equipment.

This document belongs with this PCU. The

document must always be kept available in the

same room as the unit.

This manual must be followed when the passive

cooling unit is being installed. You must also

comply with local regulations and standards that

apply in the country/location in question. In the

event of any differences between the content of

this manual and local regulations and

standards, the latter shall be complied with.

1.2 DOCUMENT INFORMATION

This manual contains information regarding the

function, safety, installation, commissioning and

preventive maintenance of the PCU.

Sections 6 Installation and 7.1 Commissioning

mainly contain information relevant to the

supervisor responsible and the contractor.

1.4 GUARANTEES

In order to make use of SWEP International

AB’s guarantees regarding the function of this

passive cooling unit, it is important that the

contractor install the unit as described in this

manual. In order for the guarantee to apply,

preventive maintenance for the PCU shall be

carried out as described in this documentation.

The following applies for the installation of the

SWEP PCU25/PCU45:

Supervisors responsible and pipe contractors

must have read and be familiar with the

contents of this manual. In the event of any

unclear points, the purchaser or the supplier

shall help to clarify and understand this

installation and commissioning manual.

2PRODUCT INFORMATION

The sensors should be connected as shown

below; the numbers are terminal numbers:

A. KP flow temperature, terminal

numbers 40, 42.

B. KP return temperature,

terminal numbers 43, 44.

C. KS1 flow temperature,

terminal numbers 30, 32.

D. KS1 return temperature,

terminal numbers 40, 41.

3FUNCTION DESCRIPTION

Function description for non-condensing

passive cooling units.

3.1 SUMMARY

This system solution is designed for properties

with liquid-distributed cooling that cannot deal

with condensation. For example, cooling

baffles, cooled floors, walls or ceilings, or fan

elements where the drip pan is not connected to

the condensation outlet.

Cooling pipes do not need to be insulated

against condensation.

3.2 FLOW TEMPERATURE CONTROL

The cooling system’s flow temperature is

controlled by a PI regulator with adjustable

P-belt and I-time. The regulator uses a sensor

input for the cooling circuit’s flow temperature

and an analogue output for the speed of the

primary circulation pump.

Dew Point Control

Dew point control is used to prevent

condensation forming on the cooling pipe

system, especially where cooling baffles or

ceiling/floor/wall cooling is connected.

The function increases the flow temperature in

the cooling circuit depending on the current dew

point in the room. A combined humidity and

temperature sensor (for example, Regin’s

HTRT) is connected and configured.

The dew point function calculates the current

dew point and adds an adjustable set point

displacement (factory setting = 1°C). The

calculated total is then compared with the

current set point. The highest value is used as

the flow temperature for the cooling system.

Pump Control

In the cooling system, a digital output can be

used to control the circulation pump. The pump

can be configured for continuous operation or

with a pump stop. The pump stop is activated

via the outside temperature sensor and a

potential-free digital input. It is also possible to

add a pump stop delay and a pump start delay.

With a pump stop, the output signal is 0 V for

the pump speed. Start of primary brine pump

and/or reversing valve from heat to cooling. A

digital output can be used to start/stop the

primary brine pump and/or activate the cooling

operation. The output complies with the pump

installations, the only difference being that the

test run does not affect the output signal.

Temperature Limit

The maximum flow temperature can be limited

using a fixed adjustable value. It is also possible

to set a minimum return temperature. If the

return temperature falls below the minimum

limit, the flow set point is overridden with an

adjustable factor. This function enables the

activation of the cooling without a primary shunt,

even if the brine temperature is below 0°C.

Condensation Detector

A condensation detector is also included in the

control system as an additional security

measure that stops the cooling operation if

condensation forms where the sensor is located

(normally on the supply line or heat exchanger),

preferably in a room that is cooled by the

system.

4.3 FLOW CHART

5SAFETY

This manual contains some safety information

of a general nature that is described in this

section, and, where appropriate, direct

warnings in connection with operating

instructions in other sections of this manual.

5.1 STAFF

Only staff with appropriate knowledge and the

necessary certification in accordance with the

below may install, commission and maintain the

passive cooling unit.

The following applies to the supervisor

responsible:

Good knowledge of pipe installations,

pressure systems and associated risks

Knowledge of the requirements in AFS

1999:4 (PED) and SS-EN 13480, SS-EN

287 and SS-EN 288

The following is required for installers:

They fulfil the requirements of SS-EN

13480, SS-EN 287 and SS-EN 288. To

what level depends on the individual

object and its pressure, temperature and

pipe dimension

Must observe and comply with the

protection and safety regulations

required by the insurance company and

with requirements regarding “hot works”

The following is required for electricians:

Must be a qualified electrician with good

knowledge of electrical installations and

the associated risks

The following is required for operating

personnel:

Good general knowledge of operation

and maintenance of cooling systems and

the associated risks

Must have assimilated the information in

this manual before any work with the unit

is carried out

5.2 ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS

5.2.1 Control Panel on the PCU

See Annex A, Cable diagram.

WARNING! Risk of electric shock.

Only qualified personnel may operate

the control panel.

6INSTALLATION

6.1 RECEIPT

On delivery, ensure that the PCU is

received correctly and is located or

guarded so as to prevent vandalism or

theft.

6.2 INSPECTION OF THE PROPERTIES TUBE

STOCKS

The instructions assume that the PCU is to be

connected to the property’s water pipes.

Check that all the secondary side’s

components have been delivered in

accordance with the technical

documentation.

Check that that the planned location of

the unit is correct and plan any cut-outs

and pipe penetrations.

6.3 PROTECTION MEASURES

Implement protection measures if work is

carried out in weather conditions that

could cause damage.

Protect your own work, including the unit,

if it could be damaged by wear and tear

during the contract period.

Use protective covers/plugs for open pipe

ends on the passive cooling unit’s

primary and secondary sides as

protection against dirt, damage or foreign

objects.

Ensure that materials or tools added do

not prevent access to or conceal shutoff

or inspection devices, fire hydrants, fire

cabinets, wells, distribution boxes,

measurement points, etc.

Keep the workplace clean and tidy during

the installation.

6.4 RINSING AND PIPE CLEANING

Clean the property’s connecting pipes

before connecting the unit.

Components such as automatic

extraction systems and solenoid valves

that may be damaged during rinsing may

not be connected/coupled during rinsing.

Rinsing should be carried out with

municipal tap water. Dirty water should

flow out via the floor drain. Rinsing shall

continue for at least 30 minutes or until

the water running out is clean.

6.5 CONNECTING THE PCU

6.5.1 Piping

Note!All piping shall be installed in the required

manner by qualified personnel; see Section 5

Safety.

6.6 COMPRESSION STRAIN IN THE HEAT

EXCHANGER CONNECTIONS

The following must be taken into account when

connecting pipes to heat exchangers:

No loads, either radial or axial, may affect

the PCU when in operation.

The first attachment point on piping does

not occur until after two bends and a total

of at least 1 metre of straight pipe.

If the first attachment point is closer, the

pipe installation shall be calculated with

regard to stresses in the pipe and heat

exchanger connections derived from

dead weights and deformations due to

thermal expansion and internal excess

pressure.

If additional loads cannot be avoided,

support shall be provided at the bottom of

the pipe so that disintegration in the heat

exchanger connections does not occur.

Tighten the cap nuts where the pipe is

attached to the heat exchanger.

6.7 ELECTRICAL WORK

The controller is installed at the factory and

electrical connections in the PCU are pre-

installed. Function checks are carried out by the

manufacturer.

Implement the PCU’s electrical connections;

see Annex A, Wiring Diagram.

6.7.1 Electrical Connections

Ensure that the main

switch for voltage

entering the unit is

locked in the off position.

If there is no main switch

available, one has to be

fitted.

Connect the voltage

cable between the main

switch and the control

panel.

6.8 HUMIDITY SENSOR

Install the humidity sensor with cable ties on the

underside of outgoing pipes on the heat/cooling

system for non-condensing cooling, with the

couplings facing outward (not towards the pipe),

if possible in the room that is to be cooled.

Remove the protective foil after assembly. NB:

Do not subsequently touch the sensor with your

fingers.

Connect the humidity sensor in the control

cabinet.

6.9 INSULATION

The plate heat exchanger is insulated when it is

delivered. The primary side must be insulated

by the fitter on site.

7OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE

7.1 COMMISSIONING

Carry out filling slowly and from the

lowest point if possible.

Open the shutoff valve for the cold

water’s tap water valve so that there is a

flow through the hot water exchanger and

the pipe network is filled.

Start up and bleed the hot water

circulation pump (VV-P1). Check/clean

any filters in front of the hot water pump

after approx. 6 hours.

7.2 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE

Check once a year that there is no leakage from

the unit and its peripheral equipment. Carry out

regular checks on the whole system. On each

occasion, note the pressure and temperature in

a check form so as to be able to see any

deviations over time.

1INTRODUKTION

Säkerhet innan någon som helst hantering av

enheten för passiv kyla (PCU, Passive Cooling

Unit) och dess kringutrustning påbörjas.

Detta dokument tillhör denna PCU. Dokumentet

skall alltid förvaras tillgängligt i samma lokal

som enheten.

Vid installation av enheten för passiv kyla skall

denna manual följas. Iakttag även lokala

föreskrifter och normer som gäller i aktuellt

land/ort. Vid eventuella skillnader mellan

innehållet i denna manual och lokala föreskrifter

och normer skall de sistnämnda följas.

1.2 DOKUMENTINFORMATION

Manualen innehåller information om funktion,

säkerhet, installation, idrifttagning samt före-

byggande underhåll för PCU.

Avsnitten 6 Installation och 7.1 Driftstagning

1.4 GARANTIÅTAGANDEN

Ansvarig arbetsledare och rörentreprenör skall

ha läst och vara väl förtrogna med denna

manual. Vid eventuella oklarheter skall köparen

eller leverantören hjälpa att tyda och förstå

denna installations- och driftstagningsmanual.

3FUNKTIONSBESKRIVNING

Funktionsbeskrivning för ej kondenserande

passiv kyla.

3.1 ÖVERSIKT

Denna systemlösning är avsedd för fastigheter

med vätskedistribuerad kyla, som inte kan

hantera kondens. Till exempel kylbafflar, kylda

golv, väggar eller tak, eller fläktelement där

droppskål inte är kopplad till kondensavlopp.

Kylrör behöver inte vara kondensisolerade.

3.2 FLÖDESTEMPERATURREGLERING

Kylsystemets framledningstemperatur kontroll-

eras av en PI-regulator med ställbara P-band

och I-tid. Regulatorn använder en givaringång

för kylkretsens framledningstemperatur och en

analog utgång för den primära cirkulations-

pumpens hastighet.

Daggpunktsreglering

Daggpunktsreglering används för att undvika

kondens på kylrörssystemet, speciellt när

kylbafflar eller när tak-/golv-/väggkyla är

anslutna.

Funktionen ökar framledningstemperaturen i

kylkretsen beroende på aktuell daggpunkt i

rummet. En kombinerad fukt- och temperatur-

givare (t.ex. Regins HTRT) är ansluten och

konfigurerad.

Daggpunktsfunktionen beräknar aktuell

daggpunkt och adderar en ställbar börvärdes-

förskjutning (fabriksinställning 1°C). Därefter

jämförs den beräknade summan med aktuellt

börvärde. Det högsta värdet används som

framledningstemperatur för kylsystemet.

Pumpreglering

I kylsystemet kan en digital utgång användas för

att kontrollera cirkulationspumpen. Pumpen kan

konfigureras för kontinuerlig drift eller med

pumpstopp. Pumpstopp aktiveras via utomhus-

temperaturgivaren och en potentialfri digital

ingång. Det är också möjligt att lägga till en

pumpstoppsfördröjning och en pumpstarts-

fördröjning. Vid ett pumpstopp är utsignalen till

pumphastigheten 0 V. Start av primär

brinepump och/eller växelventil från värme till

kyla. En digital utgång kan användas för att

starta/stoppa den primära brinepumpen

och/eller aktivera kyldrift. Utgången följer

pumpinställningarna, den enda skillnaden är att

motionskörning inte påverkar utsignalen.

Temperaturgräns

Framledningstemperaturen kan maxbegränsas

via ett fast inställbart värde. Det är också möjligt

att minbegränsa returtemperaturen. När retur-

temperaturen sjunker under minimigränsen,

åsidosätts framledningsbörvärdet med en

ställbar faktor. Denna funktion gör det möjligt att

aktivera kyla utan en primär shunt, även om

brine temperaturen är under 0 °C.

Kondensvakt

En kondensvakt är också inkluderad i

regleringen som en extra säkerhetsåtgärd, den

stoppar kyldriften om kondens bildas där

sensorn är placerad (normalt på framledningen

på sekundärsidan efter värmeväxlaren)

företrädesvis i ett rum som kyls av systemet.

5.1 PERSONAL

Endast personal med god kännedom och

erforderliga licenser enligt nedan får installera,

driftsätta och underhålla enheten för passiv

kyla.

6INSTALLATION

6.1 MOTTAGNING

Ombesörj att PCU:n tas emot vid

leverans och placeras eller bevakas så

att skadegörelse eller stöld elimineras.

Kontrollera vid leverans att stationen är fri

från transportskador.

6.2 KONTROLL AV FASTIGHETENS

RÖRSTAMMAR

Instruktionen förutsätter att PCU skall anslutas

mot fastighetens vattenledningar.
