1 Introduction
1.1 About this manual
This manual is intended for trained personnel using the CFD5000T fire detection
system and provides basic understanding how to operate the system.
NOTE!
This manual is valid for SW-version 2.2.10
Chapters User Instructions for Control Panel M 2.2, and describes how to operate
the fire detection system in case of a fire or fault alarm. Login and explanation for
all menu alternatives can be found here.
For brief instructions, see the Quick Guide for Control Panel M 2.2, page 11 and .
Lists of fault codes generated by loop units and system modules can be found in
chapter Fault codes.
For testing, please refer to the the Installation & Commissioning manual, 5100601.

1.4 Standards and certifications
The Fire Detection System CFD5000 T is designed to comply
with the standards for the industrial, maritime, offshore and
rolling stock markets up to Safety Integrity Level 2 (SIL 2).
The Fire Detection System CFD5000 T complies with many
more standards, directives etc. which can vary depending on
the final application. Please contact one of our sales
representatives for more information.

2 Safety considerations
2.1 If a fire or fault alarm is flashing on the
control panel
2.1.1 In case of a fire alarm
DANGER!
In case of a fire alarm use the information viewed on the display to verify the alarm
and take the appropriate actions based on local safety procedures.
2.1.2 In case of a fault alarm
WARNING!
In case of a fault alarm use the information viewed on the display to verify and reset
the fault.
Use the list of fault codes in the manual for more information about cause and
remedy.
If the problem remains take the appropriate actions to restore the functionality of the
fire detection system.
WARNING!
If an internal hardware or software fault has occurred it has to be restored as
promptly as possible in order to secure the functionality of the complete fire
detection system.
The detection of a dangerous fault shall result in either:
•a specified action to achieve or maintain a safe state; or
•the repair of the faulty system within the mean repair time (MRT). During this
time the continuing safety shall be ensured by additional measures and
constraints. The safety integrity provided by these measures and constraints
shall be at least equal to the safety integrity provided by the fire detection
system in the absence of any faults.
2.1.3 Further instructions
•For comprehensive test procedures refer to the Installation & Commissioning
manual.
•For troubleshooting please refer to the Service & Maintenance manual.

2Safety considerations User Manual

2.2 Precautionary measures
CAUTION!
The fire detection system contains devices sensitive to electrostatic discharge (ESD).
For installation and service work involving central components, always wear an
antistatic wrist strap or ground bracelet to avoid any electrostatic discharge.
Considerations to improve safety
In order to reduce risks and maintain a high safety level of the fire detection
system, consider the following precautionary measures.
•The user shall monitor fault alarms and take appropriate action based on
remedy for the specified fault code.
•The user shall monitor and act on warning messages according to the presented
information about the state of the system. (Warnings are not as serious as faults
and only of informative nature.)
•To secure the functionality of the fire detection system only authorised persons
should be given access to disablement or test mode privileges in the system.
•Check for contaminated detectors. Use the Control panel menu system to study
a list showing in which condition the detectors are.
•Perform visual inspection of all fire detectors as often as needed to find
detectors which has deliberately been covered (vandalised). A covered detector
can’t detect a fire (by means of smoke, heat or flames) and the fire detection
system can't detect if a detector has been covered and report this as a fault.
•If a loop unit is removed it has to be replaced as soon as possible in order to
secure the functionality of the fire detection system. During repair time the
continuing safety shall be ensured by additional measures and constraints (fire
watch, restrict access to the affected area, etc.).
