HELLO!

Thank you for using the Claris Companion.

The Claris Companion will make it easier for you to stay in

touch with friends, family, and care providers. We’ve

designed your tablet to be as easy to use as possible. We hope

you enjoy it as much as we’ve enjoyed developing it!

All of the settings for your Claris Companion are made by the

person designated as your Companion Manager (typically a

family member). They can change any of the settings from

anywhere using the Console website so you can have your

Companion work exactly the way you want.

HOW DO I GET STARTED?

Your tablet can be placed anywhere that is convenient for you

as long as it is near an electrical outlet. The kitchen counter, a

bedside table, or an end table in the sitting room are all good

choices. Just make sure that the tablet’s charging cord won’t

be a tripping hazard!

If you’re new to using computers or tablets, maybe you’re a

little nervous or hesitant in getting started, but don’t worry!

We’ve designed the tablet just for you. So don’t worry about

‘breaking’ or ‘messing up’ the tablet by pressing buttons. Feel

free to explore and have fun!

HOW DO I POWER IT ON?

The power button for your tablet is on the top-left edge above

the purple dot.

Gently press down and hold down for 3-5 seconds until you

see a Samsung screen, then immediately release the power

button.

Now, it may take up to 3 minutes for your tablet to completely

power on, showing a bunch of different screens before

showing your home screen. It may seem like this will take

forever… but be patient.

Note -If there are any problems with your tablet you can

restart the device by pressing down for 3-5 seconds and

touching [Restart] then [Restart] again.

HOW DO I USE MY TABLET?

The Claris Companion has already been set up for you with

most of the things you’ll need.

To use the touch-screen, gently tap on the buttons with your

finger or the included Blue stylus.

When you use Websites, News, Weather, and Resources, you

may also need to swipe the screen by gently dragging your

finger or stylus up and down the screen to see all the content

on the screen.

WHAT IF THE SCREEN IS BLACK?

Your tablet is set to automatically have the screen turn off at

10pm and on again at 8am (you can change these times by

pressing the [Settings]button, if you’d like them to be

different).

If the screen is black, you can touch the screen at any time and

it should turn on. If a new message or notification arrives, the

screen will turn on automatically so you don’t have to worry

about missing important messages or notifications.

If you touch the screen and it doesn’t turn on, then your tablet

might be powered off completely. In this case, power on the

device as described in the previous section.

Or the tablet may have run out of battery power. In this case,

make sure you have the tablet plugged in for 10 mins, then try

powering it on again.

HOW LONG WILL THE BATTERY LAST?

You can unplug the tablet from the power cable for up to 10

hours, but always remember to plug in the power cable

before the battery power gets too low. The tablet will recharge

automatically when plugged in. A full charge usually takes

about 4 hours.

HOW DO I KNOW IF THE BATTERY IS

CHARGING?

On the top-left of the screen, just to the left of the date, you will

see a green dot if the device is charging and a red dot if the

device is discharging.

WHERE CAN I GET HELP?

2 - You can invite a trusted friend or family member to

remotely

setup and manage your tablet for you by inviting

them as a Manager contact. To do this, please see the section

“How do I add contacts?” on page 9.

3 - If possible, using your tablet, write a message to our

friendly technical support team by tapping [Messages] then

[Write] then tap [Tablet Support].

4 - If you need further technical help, please call Claris

Companion support at:

• Saturday-Sunday from 12:00pm to 5:00pm EST

HOW DO I GET MESSAGES?

Your tablet can receive messages (email or text messages)

from friends and family.

Your personal email address is displayed by tapping

[Messages]button from the home screen then it is shown in

the top-right corner. You can tell your friends and family

about your new email address.

Note –the @ symbol in your email address is pronounced

“at”.

HOW DO I ADD CONTACTS?

You can also send people your email address automatically by

adding them to your contact list. First you’ll want to call them

first and get their email address and mobile phone number,

then:

1. Press the [Messages] button on the home screen then

the [Write] button then the blue [Add Contacts] button

in the lower right.

2. Type in their Name and tap [Next]

3. Type in their Email address and tap [Next]

4. Enter their mobile/cell phone number (this is optional)

and tap [Next]. Once you enter a contact’s mobile

phone, they will be able to send you text messages

directly from their phone.

Note –You’ll only be able to receive text messages

from contacts if you’ve added their mobile phone

number.

5. Select a Role for your contact:

- [Contributor] is a normal social contact that you want

to communicate with by sending and receiving

messages, photos, videos, video calls, etc.

- [Manager] is a trusted family member or friend that

will be able to access and change the settings of your

tablet remotely so they can help set it up and manage it

for you.

6. If you selected [Contributor] you’ll also then need to

choose their access level:

- If you want to limit your new contact’s access so they

can only send and receive email and text messages

with you, tap on the [Do not send invitation] button then

tap [Save]. Your tablet won’t send them any

introductory information about your new tablet or

email address.

- If you leave the [Send invitation] button selected and

tap [Save], your new Contributor contact will receive an

invitation email and have the ability to securely sign in

to a website to remotely see (but not change) your

settings

for Messages, Photos, Videos, Weather, News,

Websites, Games, Resources, Call Me, Video Call, and

Events.

Note –Don’t worry, your Contributor contact won’t be

able to see any of your private messages, photos or

videos with other contacts.

Note –Managers will always be sent an invitation

email.

7. Once you’ve saved your new contact, they will

automatically appear in your contact list for Messages,
