SettingUpYourTelescope:
Themountandopticaltubeassemblycomespreassembledand
ready-to-use.Carefullyremovethetelescopefromthebox.
AttachingtheEyepieces:
InserttheHuygenian20mmeyepieceintothefocuserandrotate
clockwiseintofocuseruntiltight.Becarefulnottoover-tighten
theeyepiece.
RemovingtheEyepieces:
Toremoveeyepieces,holdontothesilvermetalportionofthe
eyepiece,androtatecounter-clockwiseuntilloose,andremove
from focuser.
Onceyouhaveproperlyassembledyourtelescopeyouareready
to start using it.
• First,placeyourtelescopeonastablesurfaceorholdthemount
steadily in your arms.
•Tolocateanobjectusingthetelescope,rstloosenthealtitude
lockknoballowingthetelescopetorotatefreelyalongbothaxes.
• Aimtheopticaltubeassemblyatyourdesiredtargetbyrotating
theazimuthpositionleftorright.Lookthroughtheeyepieceat
thedesiredtarget,andmakealtitudeadjustmentsbymovingthe
opticaltubeassemblyverticallybyhand.Whenthealtitudedirec-
tionisaligned,youmayre-tightenthealtitudelockknob.
• Oncetheobjectiscenteredintheeldofview,turnthefocuser
untiltheimageisclearandsharp.
• Itisbesttousethelowestpowereyepiece(theHuygenian20mm
eyepiece)atrst.Thisallowsforawidereldofviewmakingit
easiertolocateobjects.Oncetheobjectiscenteredintheeldof
viewyoucanswitchtheeyepiecetohighermagnications.
•Youwillnoticethattheviewthroughthetelescopeisinverted
(upside-down).Thisiscommonintelescopesusedforastronomi-
calviewing.Atnightitisbesttostartbylookingatthemoonor
othereasytondcelestialobjects.Asyoubecomemoreexperi-
encedusingyourtelescopeyoucanbegintotrylocatingharder
tondobjects.

• Ifyouareviewingcelestialobjects,youwillnoticethattheobjectwill
slowlymoveacrosstheeldofview(causedbytherotationofthe
Earth).Youwillneedtoslowlymovethetelescopeverticallyand/or
horizontallytokeeptheobjectcentered.
Therearemanyconditionsthatmayaffectyourabilitytofocusor
observecelestialobjectsclearly.
• Brightlylitareas(lightpollution)willmakeitdifculttoseefaint
objectsinthesky.Itwillalsomakeitdifcultforyoureyestoadjust
tothedark.Youshouldtryandndadarkareaandallowyoureyes
toadjusttothedarkbeforemakingobservations.Usingaredltered
ashlighttoviewchartsandyourtelescopecomponentsisrecom-
mendedtopreserveyournightsight.Thebestviewingconditionsare
whentheskyisinkyblack.
• Hazyskies,pollution,cloudsandmoisturecanallaffecttheclarityof
yourviewingimage.
• Avoidtouchingtheeyepieceoropticaltubewhilelookingthrough
thetelescope.Thevibrationscausedbythiscontactwillcausethe
objectyouarelookingattomove.Youshouldalsomakesurethat
thesurfaceyouplaceyourtelescopeondoesnotvibrateormoveas
thiswillalsocauseyourviewingobjecttomove.
•Youshouldavoidsettingupyourtelescopeinsidearoomlooking
throughanopenwindow.Thedifferenceinairtemperaturesmay
result in a blurry image.
•Viewingthroughaclosedwindowmightalsoresultinadistortedim-
ageduetothevaryingdensitiesofwindowglass.
• Avoidviewingobjectsthatarelowonthehorizon.Objectsthatare
higherupintheskywillappearmuchsharper.
• Suddenchangesintemperaturemaycausecondensationtoappear
ontheopticalcomponentsofthetelescope.Itisbesttosetupyour
telescopeaheadoftimeandthenwaitwhilethetelescopeadjuststo
thenewtemperaturebeforeusingit.

Themagnicationofatelescopedependsonboththefocallength
ofyourtelescopeaswellastheeyepieceyouuse.Thereisasimple
formulayoucanusetodeterminethemagnicationyouareusingat
anygiventime.Simplydividethefocallengthofthetelescopebythe
focallengthoftheeyepiece.Forexample,ifyouareusingtheincluded
20mmeyepiecewithyourJC-200telescopethepowerwouldbe:
Power=300mm/20mm=15x
Usinganeyepiecewithasmallerfocallengthwillincreasethemagni-
cationofyourtelescope.Itisalwaysbesttostartatthelowestmagni-
cationconguration.Thewidereldofviewmakesiteasiertospotfar
awayobjects.Onceanobjectiscenteredinyoureldofviewyoucan
switchtothehigherpowercongurations.
• Alwaysreplacedustcoversandlenscapswhennotinuse.Thiswill
minimizetheamountofdustanddebristhatgetsintoyourtelescope.
• Cleaningshouldbeperformedonlyifabsolutelynecessary.Ifdust
hasbuiltupontheopticsuseasoftcamel’shairbrushorpressurized
airtogentlyremoveit.
• Ifdewcollectsontheopticsofyourtelescopeormoisturecondenses
insidetheoptics,removeallaccessoriesandplacethetelescopeina
dry,dustfreeenvironmentandpointthetelescopedownward.This
shouldhelpeliminatethemoisture.
• Avoidtouchingthesurfaceofthemirror.
• Donotattempttotakeapartyourtelescopetocleanit.
