GENERALINFORMATION:

•Thisheaterissafeforindooruseinsmallrecreational

enclosures,havingmeansforprovidingcombustionair

andventilation,suchasenclosedporches,cabins,

fishinghuts,trailers, tenttrailers, tents,truckcapsand

vans.Itmay beusedfor emergencyindoorheating

whenconnectedtoadisposable1-lb.propanecylinder

andforindooruseincommercialenclosures,having

meansforprovidingcombustionairandventilation,

suchasconstruction trailersortemporary workenclo-

sures.

•Whenthe heater iscoldor atroomtemperature, it will

takea few minutes for the burner tile to turn bright

orange.This isnormalandtheheaterisworking

properly.Ifburnertile is visiblyflaming,turn heater off

andcallaqualifiedservicetechnician.

•Whenthe unit is lit,thereshould be aboutaquarter

inchborderaroundthe tile that will not turn bright

orange.Thisisnormal.

•Whenoperatingthe heater for the firsttime,thetop

areaofthe reflectormaydiscolor.Thisis alsonormal

andisnoreasonforconcern.

•Whenoperatingtheheaterataltitudesover7,000FT.

abovesealevel,theunitmaynot burnas brightas in

loweraltitudes.Thisis normal.At higheraltitudes,the

heatermayshut-off.Ifthishappens,provide freshair,

wait5 minutesand re-light.

•Operatingtime willvary dependingon theheater

settingand thesupplycylinder size.3to 6hours on a1

lb.cylinder. 48to 110hoursona20lb.cylinder(based

on“HI”and “LO” settings).

•Whenmoving heaterwhenlit orbumping heater

settingitdown, tip over switch mayshutoff heater.If

thishappens,re-light.

•Duetohigh temperatures,theapplianceshouldbe

locatedout of trafficandawayfrom combustible

materials.

•Childrenand adultsshould bealertedto thehazard of

highsurfacetemperaturesandshouldstayawayto

ODOR FADE WARNING

FUELGASODOR

LP gas and natural gas have man-made odorants added specifically for detection of fuel gas leaks.

If a gas leak occurs you should be able to smell the fuel gas. Since Propane (LP) is heavier than air you should smell for the gas

odorlowtothefloor.ANYGASODORISYOURSIGNALTOGOINTOIMMEDIATEACTION!

• Do not take any action that could ignite the fuel gas. Do not

operate any electrical switches. Do not pull any power

supply or extension cords. Do not light matches or any other

source of flame. Do not use your telephone.

• Get everyone out of the building and away from the area

immediately.

• Close all propane (LP) gas tank or cylinder fuel supply

valves, or the main fuel supply valve located at the meter if

you use natural gas.

• Propane (LP) gas is heavier than air and may settle in low

areas. When you have reason to suspect a propane leak,

keep out of all low areas.

• Use your neighbor’s phone and call your fuel gas supplier

and your fire department. Do not re-enter the building or

area.

• Stay out of the building and away from the area until

declared safe by the firefighters and your fuel gas supplier.

• FINALLY, let the fuel gas service person and the firefighters

check for escaped gas. Have them air out the building and

area before you return. Properly trained service people must

repair any leaks, check for further leakages, and then relight

the appliance for you.

ODORFADING-NOODORDETECTED

• Some people cannot smell well. Some people cannot smell

the odor of the man-made chemical added to propane (LP)

or natural gas. You must determine if you can smell the

odorant in these fuel gases.

• Learn to recognize the odor of propane (LP) gas and natural

gas. Local propane (LP) gas dealers will be more than

happy to give you a scratch and sniff pamphlet. Use it to

become familiar with the fuel gas odor.

• Smoking can decrease your ability to smell. Being around

an odor for a period of time can affect your sensitivity to that

particular odor. Odors present in animal confinement

buildings can mask fuel gas odor.

•The odorant in propane (LP) gas and natural gas is

colorless and the intensity of its odor can fade under

some circumstances.

• If there is an underground leak, the movement of gas

through the soil can filter the odorant.

• Propane (LP) gas odor may differ in intensity at different

levels. Since Propane (LP) gas is heavier than air, there

may be more odor at lower levels.

• Always be sensitive to the slightest gas odor. If you

continue to detect any gas odor, no matter how small, treat it

as a serious leak. Immediately go into action as discussed

previously.

ATTENTION-CRITICALPOINTSTOREMEMBER!

• Propane (LP) gas has a distinctive odor. Learn to recognize

these odors. (Reference Fuel Gas Odor and Odor Fading

sections above.

• Even If you are not property trained in the service and repair

of the heater, ALWAYS be consciously aware of the odors of

propane (LP) gas and natural gas.

• If you have not been properly trained in repair and service of

propane (LP) gas then do not attempt to light heater,

perform service or repairs, or make any adjustments to the

heater on the propane (LP) gas fuel system.

combustion.

• Improper combustion can lead to carbon monoxide

poisoning leading to serious injury or death. Symptom of

carbon monoxide poisoning can include headaches

dizziness and difficulty in breathing.

• Do not use this heater for heating human living quarters.

• Do not use in unventilated areas.

• The flow of combustion and ventilation air must not be

obstructed.

• Proper ventilation air must be provided to support the

combustion air requirements of the heater being used.

• Refer to the specification section of the heater’s manual,

• A periodic sniff test around the heater or at the heater’s

joints; i.e. hose, connections, etc., is a good safety practice

under any conditions. If you smell even a small amount of

gas,CONTACTYOURFUELGASSUPPLIERIMMEDIATELY.

•To shut off heater, shut off propane at supply tank,

allow heater to use-up propane in supply line until

heater shuts off, then slightly push down and turn

•CAUTION:Afterturning heater off,wire guardwill

remainhot.Allowtothoroughlycoolbeforestoring.

•When not in use, the gas must be turned off at the

LP-gas supply cylinder. When the LP-gas supply

cylinder is not disconnected from the heater, the

heater and the cylinder must be stored outdoors, in a

wellventilatedspace,outofreachof children, and

must not be stored in a building, garage or any other

enclosedarea.

•Indoorstorage ofthe heaterispermissibleonlyif the

cylinderisdisconnectedandremovedfromtheheater.

Cylindersmust bestored outdoorsoutof thereachof

childrenand mustnotbestoredin abuilding, garageor

anyotherenclosedarea.

MAINTENANCE:

Alwayskeepthe heater area clear and freefromcombustible

materials,gasoline and other flammablevaporsandliquids.

Keep the vent areas (slots in the bottom and the top at the

front of heater) clear at all times.

Visually inspect the pilot flame and burner periodically

during use. The pilot flame should be blue in color (not

yellow) and will extend beyond the thermocouple. The

flame will surround the thermocouple just below the tip,

see Figure 2, below. A slight yellow flame may occur where

the pilot flame and main burner flame meet. The burner

should be bright orange (with a slight

blue color around the border, a red-orange haze that is

visible on the ceramic tile is acceptable) and without a

noticeable flame. A blue flame that rolls out at the top of the

ceramic tile indicates an accumulation of dust, lint or spider

webs inside the casing assembly and main burner

assembly. If the pilot is yellow or the burner has a

noticeable flame, cleaning may be required.Use the

following procedure to inspect the casing assembly and

main burner assembly.

It is necessary to periodically check the burner orifice and

burner venturi tube to make sure they are clear of insects/

nests or spider webs that may accumulate over time. A

clogged tube can lead to a fire.

1 Allowheaterto thoroughly cool before performingany

maintenance.

2 Removedisposable1lb. cylinder from heater or turn

OFFgassupplyatremotecylindervalve,anddisconnect

hosefromheater.

3 Removewireguardfromfrontofheaterbygently

bendingto removefrom holesin frontcover.

4 Remove(1)burnerassemblyretainingscrewfrom

bottomoftheheater.

5 Pullburner assemblyfrom frontof theheater.

6 Inspectinteriorof casingassemblyforaccumulationof

dust,lintorspiderwebs.Ifnecessary, cleaninterior of

casingassemblywithavacuumcleanerorapplyair

pressure.Donotdamageanycomponentswithincasing

assemblywhenyouarecleaning.

7 Inspectand cleanmain burnerorifice(mounted topilot

bracketwithjamnut) byusing avacuum orapply air

pressureatorificeopening.

8 Inspectandcleanpilot(mounted tobracket)byusinga

vacuumorapplyairpressure throughtheholesinthe

pilot indicated by the arrows inFigure 2, atleft.

WARNING:Neveruseneedles,wires,orsimilarcylindri-

cal objectsto cleanthe pilotto avoiddamagingthe

calibratedruby thatcontrols thegas flow.

9 Applyairpressureintoceramictileofburnerassembly

andthe venturi tube(with cone onend) to remove

dust,lint orspider webs.

10 Makesuretheburnertileassemblyiscompletelyseated

againstthereflector.

11 Carefullyslideburnerassemblybackintocasingassem-

blymaking sure tocenterreflector flangewiththe

casingopeningandholdinplacewhileinstallingburner

assemblyscrew inthe bottomof theheater.

12 Install wire guard by gently bending and inserting into

the(4) holesinthe frontcover.

TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION:

If Spark electrode does not produce spark.

CHECK

• Sparkelectrode broken – replace.

• Igniter wire may not be attached to spark

electrode,ground wire may not be attached

to frame - attach.

• Igniter wire damaged – replace.

• Piezoigniterdefective – replace.

If Spark electrode produces spark but pilot does not light.

CHECK

• No gas to heater – install disposable

cylinderorconnecthoseand turn on valve

atremote cylinder.

• “PILOT”positionnot properly aligned – turn

gas controlknobto“PILOT”positionand

depress.

• Pilotis blockedfrom spiderwebor dirt– clean

pilot,seeMAINTENANCE.

If Pilot flame does not stay lit when knob is released.

CHECK

• Controlknobin“PILOT”position not

completelydepressedorheldinlongenough

topurge air fromlines.

• Pilotflamenotsurroundingthermocouple–

cleanpilot,seeMAINTENANCE.

• PilotAssemblydefective–replace.

If Main burner does not ignite.

CHECK
