Preface
This manual is intended as a complete reference for the installation of the
ADEMCO Video RapidDome/RapidDome Gold product range with all
mounting variants.
The manual’s approach is to describe the installation process in logical
order.
About the RapidDome/RapidDome Gold range
The RapidDome/RapidDome Gold range combines state of the art
technology with easy “plug and play” installation and the minimum of
engineer set up required.
The range features a number of camera and lens options including:
•Zoom lens ranges of 16x, 18x, and 22x.
•Camera options of color and exwave color/mono.
Please read this manual thoroughly before
attempting to install or operate the
RapidDome/RapidDome Gold unit.

Key Installation Features
All variants of the RapidDome/RapidDome Gold include several powerful
features that make installation swift and straightforward.
•Dual control support with auto sensing on power up.
Either coaxial video control or RS 485 twisted pair data control code
are supported.
•Minimum of build required, not supplied as a kit of parts.
•Plug and play mounting, as easy as changing a light bulb.
•Integral video amplifier to allow matching over long cable runs.
•Alarm devices can be connected directly to the
RapidDome/RapidDome Gold head, 4 for RapidDome and 8 for
RapidDome Gold.
•Relay outputs available at the RapidDome/RapidDome Gold head, 1
for RapidDome, and 2 for RapidDome Gold.
•Storage of programmable settings in onboard battery backed RAM.
•Dual power capable, either 12vdc or 24vac.

Safety instructions
RapidDome/RapidDome Gold units do not contain
hazardous levels of voltage but care must be taken when
wiring the unit, particularly the mains input to the unit’s
power supply.
Static sensitive devices are present in all units and anti
static precautions should be observed at all times
Improper or careless installation may cause irreparable
damage to the RapidDome/RapidDome Gold and
control equipment. Electrical installation should
conform to recognized national standards and
regulations.
Only qualified personnel should carry out installation and
servicing of RapidDome/RapidDome Gold units.
Never point the RapidDome/RapidDome Gold directly
towards a bright light source (e.g. the sun) for an
extended period of time.
Never expose the RapidDome/RapidDome Gold to light
intensive situations.
Permanent and irreparable damage to the camera’s pick
up device may result.

System Requirements
RapidDome/RapidDome Gold receive commands from the system
controller, this can be an ADEMCO Video matrix, an ADEMCO Video
Digital Recorder, or a third party controller.
If a third party controller is to be used, the controller
must support ADEMCO Video control code protocol,
or the RapidDome/RapidDome Gold must support the
third party controllers’ protocol.

Basic Example System
Figure1
Figure 1 shows a possible system configuration.
A 2 monitor output ADEMCO Video matrix is used as the heart of the
control system and also sends and receives all control code information to
and from the attached RapidDome/RapidDome Gold units.
The system operator can select control of any one of the attached
RapidDome/RapidDome Gold domes with proportional speed pan and tilt
control via the keyboard joystick.
Alternatively the system can be left unattended with the
RapidDome/RapidDome Gold domes touring around selected presets.

System Planning
Proper planning is an important aspect of any proposed CCTV system. A
system plan provides the installation engineers with a “blueprint” to work
to and also acts as an invaluable document for service engineers who
attend the system post sale for maintenance purposes.
Important considerations are:
•The RS 485 addresses of the RapidDome/RapidDome Gold shown
with the dome location.
•The RS 485 data cable route. This should clearly show where the daisy
chain begins and also where it ends. This is particularly important on
larger installations where multiple daisy chains are connected to one or
more RS 485 distribution units (part number ADCD8TP)
•The locations of all control equipment should be marked, particularly
where equipment is hidden from view, if a matrix is installed in a
roofspace for instance. This can save service time, as the service
engineer will not have to try to trace equipment by following the
cables!
•Cable junctions and mains supplies should also be included. Again the
main benefit is for the service engineer.
A very basic system plan is shown in figure 2 on the next page.
